I have a 99 GLS and I have the same creaking noise while braking too, but i also hear it when I'm driving slow without the brake on, sometimes it sounds like a little rattle. Did anyone else have this problem or is it the same thing
|
I've heard it may be a bushing in the front end. Haven't tried to chase it yet. If you find out what is causing yours please post it here. I have the exact same thing. It's weird though. Mine only makes the rattle sound when it is like 20 degrees outside and I get in it first thing and take off. I hear it at around 10-15 mph.

That is some really good information about the lube. I have brought my car in three times for this creaking noise and they could never fix it. But I need to clarify if it is the same noise that I'm experiencing. I hear more like a swooshing sound. I especially hear it if I'm turning slowly, like in a parking lot. I've asked lots of people what they thought it was and nobody could tell me. My other Alero did it too. Any help would be great - Thanks.

Welcome spring! Time for me to fix this retarded problem. Now the sound is only coming from my drivers side caliper. Do i need to put the lube on both sides?? guess it wouldn't hurt.. but if i dont need to.. just wanna know..
thx. a2k |
...and does anything really really cool want to take pictures of the process?

called my gm dealer um they knew nothing about this problem and my car does this noise so its pissin me off too

Dealers are stupid. Just tell them to look up that TSB. |
BRSEXTON is right -- dealers are morons -- so if you want the service done, just say i want TSB yada yada done - how much. I am going to do it myself so I called and just went straight for "i need part number yada, how much and in stock?".. they confirm the part is the lube and done.
so i called 5 dealerships near my house and work, prices ranged from $5.30 cdn all the way to $12 for a single lube package.. so make sure you call around before you buy if u wanna save a cpl of bux. |
I put it on both sides of mine and there still is no creaking and it has been many months. It's too easy to do yourself if you follow the TSB destructions. I think a dealer charged me like $4-$5 for each bottle. There is a tiny amount in each but that's all you need. :thumb:

Did anybody have any luck getting the dealer to cover this under the new car warranty?

No where in the warranty information does it mention that braking components are only covered for 12 months/12K miles. Also, the guy I was talking to on the phone didn't really let me explain what I wanted them to do. I think sometime next week I'll take the warranty book and TSB up there and have them show me how this is not covered. I would love to see them try to justify this :Noooo: |
If they continue to give you the run around, ask to speak to the general manager or owner and ask for GM's customer relations phone number. :gun:

[/b][/quote] My car had 34k on it when it was done. I it done twice because it was not done right the 1st time. The last time they done it, it fixed it. I now have almost 50k and still no noise. Call GM and tell them how you feel. The only thing that is covered until 12k is the brake pads. Everything else is covered until 36k. |

I also emailed them multiple times. The 12k 1 yr warranty applies to all 'wear' items. AKA pads and rotors. They just use that to get around doing other stuff for free. :gun: :gun: :gun: |
But the key here is that the noise is not coming from a "wear" item. It is coming from the calipers. GM is stupid. I think you should find yourself another dealer.

Same thing happened to me.
The caliper pin is seized/frozen. A little bit of lube, free it up, and your set. This does cause your pads to wear unevenly |
