and such reasons is why I don't have my Alero in the 10's yet :p

such is true my friend, sometimes i really hate being mature and have priorities

I will post some more pics when I go to pick up the alero on saturday and then we will just kind of play it by ear. Don't count me out completely, because I have a couple ideas with stock axles up my sleeves that I will be working on once I actually have access to the car.......

Hey dude nice hearing that your almost finished , keep it up.

AZFire316 05-24-2009 05:55 PM

Honestly, the only thing i hate about my alero is the fact that it is an automatic. I've done 5 speed swaps in the past (96 nissan maxima, 88 mustang GT) but i am not sure how to deal with the integrated tcu ecu (pcm) in a gm vehicle, as i am in a emission controlled area and still need to be able to pass emissions.

Cliff8928 05-24-2009 10:56 PM

The PCM is one of the easiest parts of it.

AZFire316 05-26-2009 06:01 AM

that's good to know, but i still dont understand why GM would give you a 5 speed option on the 4 cyl, but not the 6.

Emissions regulations and certification. Also the probability of how many would actually sell in comparison to the auto.

AZFire316 05-26-2009 11:50 PM

was GM afraid of MAKING money? I know i would have bought a 3400 5 speed over my auto anyday.

you would have, but the other 90 percent of people who bought aleros brand new wouldnt.

AZFire316 05-27-2009 06:07 PM

perhaps, but it would have opened up another potential group of buyers, I.E. the people that bought v6 Mustangs/Camaros may have opted for this vehicle due to its lighter weight, better power to weight ratio.

kwhauck 08-17-2009 10:27 PM

ok a little update here, what with buying a house and other stuff, the alero has been put on the back burner (again) but with the summer meet coming up, we were making a really big push to get the car driving. The drivers side axles is in and fits perfect. The donor car was an 86 fiero. Just last night while doing some more research i believe I found an axle for the passenger side that will work. It is an axle from a buick rendezvous.....lol.........anyways, it is ordered and will be here thurday so unfortunately the car won't be coming to the summer meet. I will probably test fit late next week. If everything fits i have a few other minor issues to clean up and hopefully the car should be driveable in 3-4 weeks...........

just curious.. how much money is wrapped up so far?

kwhauck 08-17-2009 11:25 PM

both..

kwhauck 08-17-2009 11:33 PM

i believe with knowing the right parts and getting deals it could be done for $1000 or less, but an easier swap for a milder motor would be the f23 swap,

for me lets see........(remember a bunch of this stuff is because of neglect and my car sitting for 3 years)

built tranny $2500
oem clutch (to start with) $400
clutchmaster race clutch (to put in with built motor) $600
aluminum flywheel (for built motor) $300
misc bolts $80
88 beretta gt jackshaft $40
86 fiero cv axleshaft $65
2005 rendezvous cv axleshaft $112
new battery and oil, filter $137
fuel to fill car back up $22
fuel line and other gm only parts $217
plugs, wires, themostart, lug nuts, power steering pump and pulley, tranny seal, serp. belt $300
FPR, another fuel connector $100
tires $328

worknprog.99 08-17-2009 11:45 PM

wow thats alot.. why does it require sooo much fab work?

kwhauck 08-17-2009 11:48 PM

like i said, it could be done alot easier and cheaper with an f23 tranny, i have gone with the 282 because it should hold the power i am looking for. Also, a lot of the stuff on my list is performance orientated (not necessary for the normal person) and also a lot is from the car sitting for 3 years.......

worknprog.99 08-18-2009 12:01 AM

what is the f23 tranny from?
