Just how loud is this muffler???
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...8433&rd=1&rd=1
So I bought this muffler off eBay for $18; which is hilarious considering Canadian Tire sells these for almost $200 CAD... anyhow, I was wondering how loud it actually is. I see (hear) ricers with 5" fart cans around town and I just want to gouge my ears out. I was going for a nice deep tone that is only a menace if I punch it to the floor and if I can't accomplish that with an $18 part, then I'm going for something high end. Any ideas before I chop my stock muffler off? Is it going to worth it in terms of sound/performance. I'm not going straight pipe all the way back, just cutting off the stock and welding this one on in its place. Thanks |
looks like it could be a tad bit ricey. good thing you only paid 18 bucks for it.
|
Yeah sorry to tell you, but that is going to sound like shit.
On the plus side, you might make enough cash mowing lawns to get a real muffler. All joking aside, It's a straight-thru with fiberglass packing inside to muffle the noise. It will be loud, but with a stock exhasut system, it won't be opressively loud. If you have the 4 cyl, it will sound more like a blender than the v6 would. Like blueolds01 said, good thing you only paid $18 for it |
yeah, i had one similar to that (chinsey piece of junk) and i wanted to blow my brains out every single time i drove my car. after about 2 months i couldnt take it and got the stock one put back on. it was not ricey, rather low, but it just drove me nuts...

I know a few people who have had that style of muffler on their cars. They had a low tone but, just looked bad. To each their own see what ya think for $18.
|
Well even the garage was selling the identical thing for well over $100. Obviously this is a bit retail-inflated. I know it's hard to get past the $18 price tag. The thing actually looks very nice, I checked out a few Flowmasters and it's the exact same style excluding the lip on the end of the tips. Oh well, it's just an Alero... I don't plan to keep it much longer.
|
personaly, if your going to do it, do it right the first time and get yourself a magnaflow or flowmaster from ebay, it will be worth it so much more in the long run. im running a magnaflow from ebay and for $115.00 CAD with shipping, you cant go wrong
|
lmao..
It will rust out in a month.. Its plastic chrome.. not chrome plated.. Poor welds, resembles weld tacks only.. If it works for more than 2 months and dosent fall off, money well spent.. Providing you install it yourself.. it will cost you money if you have to pay someone to install it.. |
for $18 bucks you can't really go wrong if you install it yourself. if its sounds like crap, o well just $18.
|
but, it wasnt JUST $18, he had to get it shipped to him too, so total bill was around $60...

To quote the add: "Made Of High Quality T-304 Stainless Steel ( Light Weight )" So it is not ANY type of chrome at all!! |
you get what you pay for

WTF is wrong with an Alero!? |
^^ I caught that too.
Buying mufflers like that, maybe he'd be happier in a Civic :rolleyes2: |

Sorry... even worse.. t304 S S is the tinfoil equiv. of S .S They say light weight, because its skinned with tinfoil Stainless S. Better then chrome plate.. but.. come on.. if it was completly S . S it would be alot more money.. The shear scrap value of t304 is $3.20 a pound.. So if it weighs more than 6 pounds your laughing.. |
LOL That is awesome, thanks for the feedback... I might just stay clear of putting this thing on my car, and finding some 16 year old with a Civic to sell it to. I get pulled over enough for the blacked out windows, I don't need to give the popo another reason.
And there's nothing wrong with the Alero, but this car was a bit of a temp while I was unsure about my job... now that I can afford much more, I'm interested in getting something a bit bigger, or a BMW :coolio: My Alero wasn't actually as reliable as I had hoped. |
hahahahahahahaha I knew someone would be dumb enough one day to buy one of those POS ebay mufflers for like 20 bills.
|
eff yourself goof, I paid $18 for something most "dumbasses" pay over $100 for... or over $200 in the case of those avid Canadian Tire shoppers; I knew what I was buying. I could sell this locally and easily make several times my money back. Hell, I'm tempted to throw it on one of my beaters just to see what it actually does sound like. Clearly having paid that little for it I wasn't expecting much, I was suprised when it arrived and actually looked presentable.
|
you do that then homie, u get what u pay for, and I myself would rather pay 200 bucks for something good then a POS
|
We've all been there at one time or another, it's just that some people never grew out of that.
Glad to see you did ;) |
