transmission jerks

i posted a similar question a while back like this. when my car is at normal operating tempature, my car will shift into 2nd and 3rd very hard. if a drive like a grandma and accelerate very slow, it wont do it, but once i accelerate a little faste, it will start to jerk. car has 75,000 miles, tranny was flushed 4,000 ago because thats what most people said it might be. 500 miles ago i added seafoam transmission tune, and that did nothing. wth could it be? also forgot to add, the engine makes an odd noise at idle in drive at a stop light, but when put in park, it sounds normal.

CiscoPath 12-15-2006 06:55 PM

That's exactly what mine does. Has the power as long as you slowly depress the gas, but hit it and it feels like it's struggling for those horses. I was just gonna change out my trans fluid tomorrow. Hope that does something

2fst4u 12-15-2006 07:04 PM

that's what mine used to do. forget changing the fluid. i changed the tranny. lol

CiscoPath 12-15-2006 07:27 PM

Wooooow. That's alittle more than i'm looking to do, but I have no other problems with operation other than when I mash the gas. Does this sound like imminent tranny failure?

2fst4u 12-15-2006 07:39 PM

no, not necessarily.
my car had 1/3 more miles than you when the thing went. my engine was quick to follow suit. lol
take it to a specialist. get their opinion, and then come back to us.

Lets not get it confused. That is rev's mileage. I just hit 120,000 the other day

2fst4u 12-15-2006 08:24 PM

that was my lucky number. good luck.

Here are the most common problems with the 4T65-E transmission that will cause a harsh shift upon heavy acceleration:
• All years--Pressure Reg. Valve (Bore 1) or Torque Signal Valve (Bore 4) stuck.

• On 2001-2002 vehicles, a plugged orifice on the case side of the spacer plate.

• ON 2003-2004 vehicles, restricted movement of the 2-3 shift valves in the valve body.

• On 2003-2004 vehicles, restricted movement of the 3-4 shift valves in the valve body.

Well, I fall in the "all years" catergory. So, is this home mechanic repairable?

super white alero1 12-15-2006 08:47 PM

Any SES lights? I solved a similair problem on a grand am, turns out to be the TPS faulty. Does it lag when you stomp on the gas? Feel like a misfire? if so then it may need a tune-up.

ummm, i dont think you have a 65-E. 4T45-E is the one you have, unless i got confused somewhere.

Mine was doing the same exact thing and i had to get a new tranny. $1400 dollars later.

2fst4u 12-15-2006 10:37 PM

i think i paid 200 dollars total. i did all my own labor, and picked up the tranny for 85 bux.
good tranny fluid is expensive. royal purple ftw

MixtapeMessiah 12-15-2006 11:13 PM

Yea same problem with me, I just hit 101,000 and the shaking from the tranny while in drive while seating at a light is horrible, I always have to put it in the neutral, Im thinkin my tranny is goin to shit. Whats new on our cars huh lol

2fst4u 12-15-2006 11:26 PM

you may just need fluid added. mine did that crap when it needed fluid.

MixtapeMessiah 12-15-2006 11:49 PM

nope changed my tranny fluid yesterday, still the same, and I put that good shit in too (Royal purp) my tranny just goin out, Im thinkin maybe a syncro is goin expecially between 1st and 2nd its a long paused shift, like its slippin too..inless I floor it then it shifts firm and hard like its suppost too.

no it isnt

its actually 4T40, the 45 is in the GAGT and the 65 is in the chevy's and grand prix

Cliff8928 12-16-2006 12:50 AM

Yep, the 65E is only in the larger (ex: W-Cars and larger)... Just ask a dealer mechanic / parts guy.

The ONLY time a 65 gets installed into one of the smaller cars is the newer ones with the 3900 V6.

You have no synro gear in an auto, synro are only in manuel.

spark plugs were changed 1,000 miles ago, and fuel filter changed 5,000 ago. i guess im going to have to take it to a transmission shop, and hope to get an honest answer, instead of them just telling me i need a new tranny without looking at it. i asked the women that owned the car before me, and she said it has been doing it since about 15,000 miles. why she never took it to the dealer under warrenty, i have no idea. also, a friend said getting my pcm tuned could maybe fix it. is there even a slight chance that would work?

Oldsnut 12-16-2006 12:35 PM

Do these tranny have a computer module in them? My 99 Intrigue has the same issue, it feels like somebody rearended me when it shifts. It happens after 30 minutes and is hot enough. A tranny guy said it would be $600 part but with 115K on it, he suggested new tranny. I no squat about newer transmissions but declined, beteween $1800 for that and a whole lot of other things going wrong I'll be selling as a parts car.

Cliff what do think of what he told me and could this be similar problem with rev's car?

jackal2000 12-16-2006 02:02 PM

the tranny is controled by the PCM and $600 for a new one is a totally outrageous.

super white alero1 12-16-2006 02:54 PM

Jon $600.00 for a new PCM is realistic, $600.00 for a reflash is absurd.

The trans is controlled by the PCM just like the engine. It's probably a physical part in the trans that they are saying needs to be replaced. I'd ask the mechanic some more info about what exactly needs to be done.
