What the hell do i need to do to remove the front license plate.....the black part. cause i took off the plate, and there were these weird looking bolts or something. lol, but now the black part is making marks on my front bumper, so i wanna get it off.

HELP! lol

pimpalero2003 05-14-2007 03:52 PM

i belive its a 10 mm bolt then when u take it off ull have to file down and unlss u want to paint ull have the holes

alerocar01 05-14-2007 03:56 PM

are those pop rivets holding the plate holder on? because if they are you are going to have to drill them out.

billytheman1188 05-14-2007 03:59 PM

idk whats holding it in, but they are circular and have a little hole in the middle of them

theres 4 of them

AGT 05-14-2007 04:03 PM

They are rivets Billy.

Just be careful when you drill them out so you don't leave any blue paint.

j/k

just drill em

HazMatt24 05-14-2007 04:09 PM

I didn't have to drill mine out, it was just held in by screws. They may have had some hex head or something, I don't remember but that was the first thing I did when I got home from the dealer

billytheman1188 05-14-2007 04:13 PM

how should i drill them out????

HazMatt24 05-14-2007 04:19 PM

with a drill Billy

Put the drill bit on the center of the rivet and then make sure you have the drill bit in the drill....

1.drill

2.remove drill

3.repeat

billytheman1188 05-14-2007 04:43 PM

o ok, well i didnt know where to drill. so i just drill the middle of them and they will come out????

AGT 05-14-2007 04:55 PM

Thats it

well I suppose you could use some pneumatic tool but I'd recomend a drill

Oldsnut 05-14-2007 07:07 PM

Who needs the Comedy Central, we got Billy. What Billy, you never drilled a small hole before?

somebody needs to video Billy doing this and put it up on YouTube. Oh, and what's the over/under on the number of stitches he's going to need?

Redog 05-15-2007 12:37 AM

Aside from the Silly Billy statements, why do you want to do this? Doesn't NY require front plates?

adam337 05-15-2007 01:18 AM

lol...silly billy...lol...

pimpalero2003 05-15-2007 09:23 AM

mine had bolts

yes they do, but i know several people who dont have font plates on their cars. If i do get pulled over i will just make up something.

but as far as my "stupid question" i just didnt know where i should drill.

Dont be retarded Billy, the front plate is on there for a reason, so I would recommend just leaving it on there and avoiding the fine of dealing with it. Fact is that you're going to have some big holes in your front bumper after take the plate frame off, so its going to look more silly with holes than with the required plate.

billytheman1188 05-15-2007 10:07 AM

I would leave it on if it wasnt making marks in my bumper. Is there anything i can do to stop it from making marks besides taking it off.

doubleN0alero 05-15-2007 10:08 AM

so you're worried about marks, but not holes?

well its going to keep making marks, and it will look stupid with all these white lines on the bumper

doubleN0alero 05-15-2007 10:23 AM

I'm not understanding how a license plate frame is making scratches on the bumper that are visible. Why don't you just tighten it up so it maybe doesn't move if thats what its doing and be done with it.

because behind the plate there are some weird things holding the black part on. i dont think there is a tool to use for it...

rowdygls 05-15-2007 10:52 AM

Here is something that might be easier for you...but judging by the drilling confusion...probably not...

Why not go with a bodykit..I know more expensive then your time, but you have a better excuse for no front plate  . or

Take it to a shop and see what they would recommend for the plate holder so it doesn't make you bumper look like crap or post up some pics of what you're talking about so we can help you out and keep you out of trouble.

Granted, Alero's with no front plates look much smoother. GL

Learn how to park

AGT 05-15-2007 11:21 AM

It won't make holes larger that a stir straw if you can hold a drill correctly

Ghadsphi 05-15-2007 11:48 AM

Um did anyone tell him not to use a bit the size of the rivet head? Don't they make you take metal shop anymore in Junior High? They didn't make us do much but we had to rivet the handles on our dustpans...
