3.4 Supercharger, N/A, Turbo

Here's the stitch guys..
pretty much everyone I know fixes up imports and everyone wonders wtf is an Alero I know my car has potential and I've seen what they can do from looking into Red Dogs car and Jackals but.. I was wondering whats the best bang for you buck when it comes to moding these cars?
I just have small mods right now.
cat back exhaust system.
MSD wires/coil kit.
I plan on getting the..
PFYC Chip
Chrome Intakes (Ebay cai)
Underdrive pulley

and then the question mark comes up..
I don't want to spend over 2500 bucks I have my own shop to work in and I have lots of friends that can weld.. yada yada..

pimpalero2003 12-18-2007 03:13 AM

well if u can get people to do the turbo manifold or what ever id say turbo

jackal2000 12-18-2007 03:50 AM

turbo, hands down. you could probably piece together a budget turbo build for $2k. if you went N/A, that same amount of money gets you headers, heads, and a cam with a couple hundred bucks to spare, but no where near the power level. if i could do it again i would have just had the blown head gasket fixed and slapped a t3/t4 turbo on it and called it a day.

YALEROYNOT 12-18-2007 04:53 AM

go to reddogs cardomain page. and he listed his mods. he has like 207hp at wheels

no he doesnt. his car has never been dynoed and there is no way its even close to 200whp.

Redog 12-18-2007 10:31 AM

^^ Really, who's running 14's :rolleyes2:

Redog 12-18-2007 10:36 AM

There are a few things you can do. Personally I like the s/c over the turbo.

Turbo will make power a lot quicker, but it's also a hell of a lot of heat to deal with. S/C runs cooler, and is belt driven. You can get a smaller pulley for it too fairly easy.

Mizly also has a s/c cam and a stage 1 and stage 2 n/a kit. I'm looking to get the stage 2 kit when the day comes to replace the motor. Both kits come with upper and lower manifolds, cam, PCM, thromo, new timing chain, complete gasket set, and some thing else I'm sure I'm leaving out.

The stage 2 kit will get you some nice power ;)

So if I did go with the stage 2 kit what would I do about my fuel system?

Did Jackal make his own Turbo manifold and everything?

[ion] C2 12-18-2007 01:04 PM

jackal has a turbo?

turbo's reach peak power faster than superchargers?

i'm lost

if i remember right, blackjack tried to save as much money as he could on his set-up. He made a lot of stuff.... just PM him and he will help you out.

It comes with injectors, doesn't it?

I would think the stock pump would be fine, but you could get an upgraded one. Stock fuel pumps suck anyway

Me too. I've only driven my turbo-ed engine, but I don't get boost 'till about 2500rpm, then it's hangonholytorquesteer!

we both are clown. prove your claim of over 200whp. you cant just add up the hp of each mod and think thats what you have. :rolleyes2:

Myth!

The heat in the compresed air is from the compressing, not from the type of device doing the compressing. Under hood temps might be slightly higher with a turbo, but not that much different, and definatly won't hurt any performance aspect. Turbos also need heat to work, look up turbine theory for a more in depth explaination.

Really every time you go to the track you say you never break into the 14's, where's the post with the 14.xxx timeslip ;)

And if you are running in the 14's let me know and I'll update the fastest Alero thread ;)

[ion] C2 12-18-2007 07:44 PM

14 is still not that quick.. i can't wait to rebuild and inject meth and feel the wonders of 13-15 PSI

best bang for your buck, turbo it like the poll says

Redog 12-18-2007 07:54 PM

Jackel is right, I'm not putting down 207, I'm putting down around 201

I used this forumla from Daytona:

Calculate HP From MPH and Weight
HP = (((MPH / 234)^3) * Weight)

I pluged in my peak MPH which was 92.04 and the weight that day with driver and cargo was 3306. And for the doubters this was not a 35* day, it was actually in the low 80's on this day. It was during a points day last spring. I'm sure Daytona will vouch for that ;)

Here's the break down:

HP = (92.04 / 234)^3) x 3306
HP = (0.393333)^3) x 3306
HP = 0.06085303703 x 3306
HP = 201.1801404

Redog 12-18-2007 08:01 PM

This web site http://www.race-cars.net/calculators/et_calculator.html

I pluged in all the proper numbers in the proper places and the figures were EXACTLY the same

and on this page of the web site

http://www.race-cars.net/calculators...alculator.html

I pluged in 3306 for weight and 14.825 which is the fastest I ran at e-town, not at Atco which is a 14.539, and guess what it said, 200.54 at the wheels and 260.71 at the flywheel.

Hmmm let's see the 14.539 at 3260 (which was the weight that day, Less gas in the tank, no cooler for drinks (only there an hour) and no other cargo, jack and spare dumped out just like in other weights listed above)

And it's a little bit higher, it said 209.65 at the wheels and 272.55 at the flywheel, so I guess the cold weather did help, a little bit :rolleyes2:

So I am putting down 200, But I guess the sciene isn't enough. O well, I have to wait to get the car into my wife's school becuase they have a Mustang Dyno there, so maybe when I get some work done, I'll have it dynoed, but then you probably won't belive there either

[ion] C2 12-18-2007 08:06 PM

no one cares about HP numbers, it's all about the track times

180HP bikes run 9s or less

99-alero 12-18-2007 09:13 PM

lol redog your cardomain says u got 240hp? u trigger happy or is that a typo

[ion] C2 12-18-2007 09:14 PM

240 at the crank chief

99-alero 12-18-2007 09:25 PM

ahhh my germs

jackal2000 12-18-2007 09:52 PM

formula schormula....

my car has actually been dynoed. i had 183whp and ran a 14.909. so what you are telling me is that you have less mods, 20 more whp, and only ran less than a tenth faster? GTFO.

Redog 12-18-2007 09:53 PM

^^ 14.5 is 1 tenth faster that 14.9?

Your just pissed off that I'm faster :lol:

really though I don't understand why your so pissed off or trying to prove me wrong, if I'm wrong, fine I'm wrong and I will own up to it after the car's dynoed, but until then I go by formula

no clown your 14.825. and yes i am pissed off that my track time doesnt accurately reflect my investment, but i am working on that. just get it dynoed so i can shut the hell up.

Redog 12-18-2007 09:58 PM

I will eventually.

I was talking to the wife today about this thread (actually about 3 hours ago). She works at an Auto trannign school and they have a Mustang Dyno there. I want to get my car on it SOOOOOOO BAD, Both of them actually, but she's afraid to ask. Plus I just got a free aligment on the Delta, so she thinks she's gotta lay low of a while.

She is going to get my hood & fenders repainted before ASS '08, so maybe I get get it on the dyno then :yahoo:

i have a short-ram-warm air intake and full exhaust(2.50 straight thru)(no headers)(just heat wrap insulation); lowered 1.80"all around.
id say in the cold weather about 230FHP and 170WHP and when i weighed it said 3309lb(best 1/4 time=15.45/withCAI). i raced a 2000 v6 eclipse(same mods) on route 23 in traffic and smoked his ass.(WE RACED FROM 287(OAKLAND,NJ,SKYLINE DRIVE EXIT) TO THE 46,80 EXIT on 23South, i beat him by approx 1/8th of a mile)(BTW NO COPS WERE INVOLVED)

by far the scariest thing ive ever done(108mph for 7 miles in medium to heavy traffic.

it was about 36*F outside at 30mins b4 sundown.

others ive raced - colbalt SS(4banger)2004, eclipse(v6)2000, alero(v6)2001(stock)

BTW, to all those who have a CAI, change it to a SRWAI in the winter, trust me theres no difference xcept with the SRWAI you get faster throttle response and improved low-end torque. GRREAT SUCCESS!

wanna see more, check out "Ma BeateR"

Someone really should give ya a good hard kick in the nuts. People like you give anyone who mods their car a bad name. Next time you race I hope you smash the hell outta your car without taking anyone else with you. Seriously, 108 in traffic, how many cars with carseats in them did you pass.

once my tune is uneffed i'll be getting another dyno done as well. here it costs $85 for 3 power pulls or you can rent it and do some tuning in between unlimited pulls for $125/hr.
