radio stations
I have a '99 Alero 4-door and I've had an aftermarket radio installed for a while now. The problem is that I've never been able to get in any radio stations clear. There's only one that I can really get in but its still not as good as the stock radio was. Also, my rear window defogger doesn't work. I'm thinking theres a broken cable somewhere. Could the rear window defogger not working be the reason I can't get in radio stations because the antenna is in the rear winshield? Or is there any way I can buy another antenna to have it work?

There is a TSB out for poor radio reception on the stock setup, the antenna cable can come unplugged. To fix this, go on your passenger side, remove the scuff plate from the floor board >see 1st pic<, once you have removed it (just pulls off comes out as one piece, be careful so you don't break/loose the metal clips, its hard to do but it sometimes happens) Now look right by the door where the floor starts to curve up, you should fine a black 6 gauge wire, it should be plugged in to a connector >see 2nd pic<, yours is most likely unplugged or loose, Gm said just to tape the connection up using duct tape or electrical tape.
Thant should be it, hope this helps! |
The antenna is an amplified model. Theres a green wie on the stock harness that needs 12v+ switched to turn on and work.

i know this is old but say what i just put my unit in and am getting shit signal, no defrost probs that i know of, i was thinking maybe it was in the adapter but was using the search button and stumbled on this
|
so do you have a question?
|
yeah could it be that? or this...
i ordered the adapter form amazon and got two peices one is a peice that fits to the head unit and the wire does fit into it but provides no signal to anystations another is a peice stat starts with what looks like oem one that your trying to addapt and thing that resembles a cheap cabel cord peice form and tv i gave up with out the second and stuck it in, i get some signal bot its shitty, random and goes in and out, is this the wrong adapter or am i doing it wrong |
like Ryan from Ohio said, theres a wire in the aftermarket harness that says pwr ant. connect that wire to the new HU's remote wire. If you had not done that during your install, that should fix it.

would that be the little SOB that said ant REM i feel retarted i figured that was for a hd radio or somting
u know lik e a rem wire form an amp but a rem wire for an hd radio is my stupidity logical |
Thatd be it. And dont feel bad its happened to a couple other people AKA me.

hey if someone readys this is there a way to make a head unit fit in there a little better its stickign out mayber half a centermeter from flush
|
did you cut out the black plastic in the back of the bay where the stereo goes? i haven't, and i know my stereo sticks out like an inch and a half.
|
no i havent i got to take it apart when i get home from school here in an hour ill try that, mine only out an half in or so though
hopefully it is the wire |
hope i dont have to mess with that metal part back there, i grouned it there after drilling a hole in it
|
With the alero it is an amplified antenna. You MUST hook your antenna turn on wire up to the wiring harness in appropriate location. Otherwise you dont have the antenna...

ryan what wire from my harness adapter to i attach the rem ant to, is light blue from the back of the head,
the wires left from teh adapter are black says ground red - dealer said dont use for powwer, tap an in an accessory sourch orange no clue also there is a wire form teh back of the head tagged "att" i havent used, if my cheap harness doesnt have a wire to hook that ant rem too do you know what color it is on the aleros wires, i could strip it and attach there i guess |
Well first lets look at the harness's.
Is your remote antenna wire hooked up to the aftermarket wiring harness you bought? Most newer decks have a remote antenna wire AND an amplifier remote wire... So pick the correct wire. The wire on the factory harness side should be a light green color if memory serves me correct. And if I dig a little deeper in my memory banks, I dont think my harness had a power antenna wire/option. So I had to hard wire direct. |

yeah and i have the right one attached to my amps rem wire, theres just nothign in see for the ant rem to connect too |
so if i look back there adn see this light green wire, should i try stripping in a little and touching the ant rem to that while trying the radio? or would it be more complicated
|
i realy wish i rememberd what brand the wire was, i got it from a place tha tdeals mostly memphis and rockford stuff, think it said something like CDX
|
please?
