Im the fng...lol

Hey guys

Im a 4 year owner of a white 2000 GL out here in GA and probably moving cali. She is my first car and has been great to me. I been looking to do somethings to her for years but couldnt find much. I must be really slow because I just stumbled on to these forums. Either way I suprised at the support aleros have and the amount of thing you can do to them. After take pot shots from my co workers for driving an alero, thru this website I will able to shut some of them up. I have a WAI and a magnaflow muffler. After lurking here I think you guys convinced me into the gm supercharger. So please excuse my noobness cause Im not the the greatest mechanic and not as hardcore as some of yall. But I do want to get my "ho" to above average Joe status...not to kill stangs and such but to get the respect it derserves for a being an awesome car, plus I need that highway pull..heheh

[ion] C2 05-13-2008 02:33 PM

Alerosaint 05-13-2008 02:39 PM

01silveralero 05-13-2008 02:43 PM

do it yourself

Mannnn....im not sure about my skillz like that...i mean I can change brakes and stuff but heavy engine stuff...well I guess I should order it and at least take a look what im working with....how long it took to do yours?? Also does self installation void the warranty??

jayson_waltz 05-13-2008 03:20 PM

if you have a 2000 alero i don't think u need to worry about warranty anymore. if u can do brakes u should be able to do this. its pretty much a bolt on setup.

[ion] C2 05-13-2008 03:24 PM

if you still have a warranty it doesn't void it.

took me 11 hours alone, because i went super slow. most do it in like 6. all you do is follow the instructions.

heh last year did engine removal from car in junkyard (9am start) back home by 1pm (hour drive) engine out of the car by 230pm other engine in by 430 then beer time :)

anyways its good to learn how to fix it/install it by yourself u learn wut u can and can't do. if it gets to be too much ask somebody for help then.

Alerosaint 05-13-2008 03:39 PM

cool I just talk to one of my co workers and he is willing to help me but yeah it does make sense to learn and know about what I am putting in my car so I can do the repairs myself and just have a general idea of whats going on....gonna try to order this weekend...appreciate the vote of confidents...btw what intake do you guys recommend cause I dont think my aem wai gonna fit after this install

01silveralero 05-13-2008 03:41 PM

u will need a curved pipe to keep ur wai or u can get a new cold air intake setup to go in ur fender.

Alerosaint 05-13-2008 03:51 PM

might have to go new...cause the aem got to many curves in....i guess ebay is the the best bet

[ion] C2 05-13-2008 03:55 PM

you customize it. use one of those simple S-pipe WAI intakes for a cavalier. i have mine connected to another intake cut up a bit to make a CAI.

Trickyslick 05-13-2008 03:59 PM

Welcome and have fun...

[ion] C2 05-13-2008 04:08 PM

^I think that's an automated response.

Alerosaint 05-13-2008 04:27 PM

hmm...yeah i thing im gonna have do that..do you have a pic of your setup so I can have an idea of how i need to do this

Trickyslick 05-13-2008 04:32 PM

Welcome and have fun.......ION C2

[ion] C2 05-13-2008 06:24 PM

this is what you'll use if you just want a WAI with the supercharger

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BZ-95...m370050222037&

that plus this one (cut it in half basically) will make a CAI in the fender

See?

I actually ended up adding a short elbow and such though:

Alerosaint 05-13-2008 06:28 PM

oh..ok awesome...thx alot....have been in any danger of sucking up water??

[ion] C2 05-13-2008 06:32 PM

if you drive through water levels that go up to 3/4 your wheel height you might.

i've driven through TORRENTIAL rainfall, loads of puddles, etc (for over 5 hours straight one time). water will only be sucked up if the end of the pipe is submerged

Alerosaint 05-13-2008 06:42 PM

ah...i see..ok then..im sold...cmon rebate check..lol

YALEROYNOT 05-13-2008 07:02 PM

wecome to the site

ask ionC2 that brakes are very important with the super charger ;)

I am goin to do my own install of my turbo/supercharger when I get the funds to do it. shouldnt be that hard to do. if you take your time and maybe pics and lables should make it a smother install

thx man...appreciate the advise....yeah I guess going faster gonna make it harder to stop...i think i will learn from someone elses pain...ion was there pain???

[ion] C2 05-13-2008 07:31 PM

i don't get why people think adding power mods requires brake mods. if you aren't going faster than the speed limit what's the difference? you shouldn't need to stop faster because you can accelerate faster

brakes are important whether or not you're making more power, i was doing 30MPH without my foot on the throttle when i had to slam on the brakes. the front bumper took all the damage, and the right headlight.

hmm...that makes sense 40mph is 40mph..your just get there quicker...same amount of energy to stop....true statement

[ion] C2 05-13-2008 07:41 PM

but you accelerate quicker than normal so you reach destinations quicker, if something occurred in front of you, you would have had more time and distance to stop if you accelerated slower, that's the idea, i think

Alerosaint 05-13-2008 07:53 PM

i guess stopping the greater force of the acceleration going to 40 compared to cruisng at 40..I guess thats where the difference play...oh well pedal/engine braking combo hasnt failed me yet
