New Sound For My Alero...Need to Pick Speakers

Just picked up a Sony X-Plod 1200W Amp, a Jensen Stereo and 2 Polk Audio 12'' Subs with a box...all close to brand new and for $300(except for the Stereo, that is new)! Score!!!
I need to pick speakers to replace my stockers. I have a 2000 GX with the 4 speakers, 2 in the doors, 2 in the back behind the seats.
No budget
help me out here!
will post Pics later too

Lol nice. I got my system for free too. 126 installed for the radio. that was priced 120 sticker price. but the rest was free. The next thing I want to do is either rim's or the speakers. Hopefully Ryan will chime in :)

Ryan from Ohio 08-07-2008 10:41 PM

Eh.

Well if you can hook it up yourself the next step is to buy proper wiring www.knukoncepts.com

Then after that I would replace the front speakers. Something in the $80-120 flavor will probably suit you and work with your system alright.

meadus101 08-07-2008 11:21 PM

You guys don't do your own radio installs? Wimps! haha.

After a 750 dollar repair that happened because The installation place gave me the wrong harness and ABC warehouse owns that company I talked to them and they got me a good deal. I Got the repair for free. thank god for dealership connections..

deathwish666 08-08-2008 04:24 AM

i would go to crutchfield.com and look around...i love that place almost has much as here haha

Vinman 08-08-2008 06:31 AM

If your willing to go for a road trip, I've got to "brand" new pioneer 6x9's (about 8 months old, work awsome) in my car, but its in a junkyard in new britain ct, if they haven't crushed it already..I wouldn't ask for a cent, though the yard might

Definitely use crutchfield as a research site, but i wouldn't order from them.... too expensive.

etronics is usually pretty cheap, but you can get an even better deal by using sounddomain.com's 105% price match guarantee. Find the product on etronics, then submit it, and order from sounddomain

Fi-Alero 08-08-2008 10:08 AM

Congrats man. Is this your first system? Sony and Jensen isn't the best companys in the car audio world, but its a start.

Defiantly work on the front speakers first. A good front stage will make you enjoy your sound system 100x more.

Do you have a box yet? Are you planning to build your own?

For the front doors, you could put in a 6.5 component set, but hat might require you to do a few mods, but it is extremely worth it in the end. It all just depends on how much work you want to do.

"Definitely use crutchfield as a research site, but i wouldn't order from them.... too expensive."

Crutchfield is expensive, but you are paying for the customer service that comes along with the product. They honor their 5 year warranty and will even replace an amp that is borderline out of warranty or something that you messed up.

cherrington17 08-08-2008 10:11 AM

^well then.... if thats the case... pay the price for the extra service. i've never heard anything about them before, just that its more expensive.

fi, did you do those fiberglass door pods yourself?

Fi-Alero 08-08-2008 10:15 AM

Yea cheerington, I glassed those a few months back.

Right now I'm in the process of redoing the interior. The door looks nothing like that now lol

This sounds like you've been hanging out in Circuit City, cause everything you got they sell. Only difference is if you got those polk audio 12's from CC then you would still be paying for them cause there price is rediculous, and if you get the ported box from them you mine as well take a loan out under your grand childrens name....lol

billytheman1188 08-08-2008 12:53 PM

Im still wondering what part of albany your from....... lol

NickAlero2000 08-08-2008 03:33 PM

lol im from colonie
we should meet up sometime!

and i have the ported box too, my friend sold that to me with the subs, amp and stereo. A little scratched but It'll do the job! Pics on the bottom...

Im leaning towards Pioneers in the fronts, backs I'll prolly do pioneers too...

yes this is my first system!

and i cant wait until i start wiring it all up! :yahoo:

lonnie 08-08-2008 05:07 PM

yep those are the outragously priced circuit city subs I was talking about.

NickAlero2000 08-19-2008 08:40 PM

lol just hooked it up....
its a monster!!!
still havent done new speakers yet...suggestions still welcome!
pics to come too :)

NickAlero2000 08-19-2008 08:43 PM

ok i have a problem too...
my stereo fades in and out when on AM and FM stations while driving...im thinking the adapter for the new radio to the old harness is being grounded somewhere it shouldn't be so im going to check that Sunday....
any other possible ideas?

Redog 08-19-2008 08:59 PM

I just put in the Pioneer speakers all around that fit the car.

My stereo is stock and will probably stay that way.

Been in about 3 years and still good ;)

Midgear 08-19-2008 10:02 PM

I keep asking myself if I'm ever going to put my subwoofers back in the car.. I guess I end up ignoring myself because it never happens.

760 watt pioneer amp 2 channel bridgeable- I need a good set of subs to hook it up to. or just get rid of the damn thing lol.

mabey its because I have walmart subwoofers and boxes that are about 3 years old.. LOL

jeenysrider07 08-20-2008 01:00 AM

I need a new amp, how much you want for it?

Ryan from Ohio 08-20-2008 01:10 PM

Wow oh wow...

You shouldnt be running both of those subs together bridged nd in asingle slot port box. They are different subs. The amp wont produce the power it should when birdged, asthey are different subs. The subs wont move in sync or one may move further than the other. One sub may get more ower than the other.

Thats just wrong on so many levels. Choose one sub, sell the other. Build a proper box. Then it will wang.

NickAlero2000 08-21-2008 10:40 PM

I didnt wire them together so idk exactly how this works but ill try my best to explain it the way my friend did to me.
i dont know how much truth is in what he said BUT...
he said when he wired it up since theres more than 3ft of speaker wire the bridging problem is prevented and each sub recieves equal ownership of the amp and the power it can put out.
They both move at the same time, at the same speed.
If i pick up on any issues I'll wire them as separate subs.

Ryan from Ohio 08-21-2008 10:54 PM

If each sub is wired to its own channel thats a good start.

If they are not hes full of crap and anyone who says different doesnt know a thing, so beware.

If both speakers are wired to one terminal on the amp its not good news.

You can probably live with them being in a common chambered box, but there are drawbacks.

If your friend thinks Im wrong send him here. He needs a lesson.

But heres the short of it.

With two different speakers they can not be wired to one terminal, mono, bridged, series. They MUST be wired separate. Basically the motor consists of a magnet and a VC former with the voice coil wire wrapped around it. Now they could utilize different wires between subs, different spiders, hell different metal in the motor structure. All of it has an effect on the Thiele Small parameters of the sub. If boths subs T/S specs are not identical (within reason here) then they wont pull power the same from the amp. Their impedance will change at different rates...

Midgear 08-21-2008 11:35 PM

^^ the sound guru has spoken.

NickAlero2000 08-22-2008 11:30 AM

Thanks Ryan, I trust someone on here a lot more than this particular friend, hes not a sound guru, hes a forced induction guru (more turbos than s/c)...
So i think ill go ahead and rewire them as separate subs on sunday when im off from work :)
