I just got done replacing my reciever and now i want to replace that little light in that cavity below the radio. anyone know what size or type that lamp is?

and has anyone used oznium cathodes for some feet light? just how bright are we talking with those things?

thanks.

not sure, it's really small, take off the shifter (there is a pin on the side closest the stereo) and pull up on the front cup holder, that whole assy. will pull out, you can look at the bulb, and also change the 194 bulb under the P, R, N, D, etc with a blue led one.

My friend has ozium cathodes in his accord, its pretty bright, but it looks nice.

jonez 06-03-2004 02:50 AM

Replaced that small light in the hole with two leds, looks good.

Silentalero 06-03-2004 09:13 AM

2 cold cathodes under the dash and led in cubby hole

cherrington17 06-03-2004 10:08 AM

thanks everyone, i'll definetly be doing that soon. (espicially silentalero, that pic proved it for me.)

ptrudel 06-03-2004 10:24 AM

if u want good lighting, go with cold cathodes....very bright, and dirt cheap compared to regular neons...

Silentalero 06-03-2004 10:35 AM

only drawback...extremely flimsy...you tap it with anything n snap its gone

ptrudel 06-03-2004 10:44 AM

so very true...silent, did u use the velcro crap they sent to fasten the tubes?

keytonic 06-03-2004 10:50 AM

that velcro doesn't hold up very well your better off with double faced tape

Silentalero 06-03-2004 11:13 AM

pfft, na i secure my stuff good, just poke 4 holes around the squared ends and tie wrap em in there.

ptrudel 06-03-2004 11:19 AM

iite cool..thanx silent...cuz ya, that velcro doesn't hold worth of poop

cherrington17 06-03-2004 12:27 PM

funny thing is i just order some led's and cathodes and was gonna post a question as to favorite (sturdy) mounting methods.... now i know. man i love this site... :D

jonez 06-03-2004 02:14 PM

Question about the cold cathodes, I read where some of the colors are a little of, like red is more of a pink. Was wondering how true this is.

alerov6rcr 06-03-2004 02:16 PM

how do you cahnge the bulb under the p,r,n,d,3,2,1?

ptrudel 06-03-2004 02:22 PM

well i dunno about the red...but i got the green ones, and they are definately green...and the blue ones are blue too, my sis has 'em in her cavy

Silentalero 06-03-2004 02:38 PM

Ok yes that is true about the cathodes.

Red is sorta pinkish

Blue is teal

green is a lighter green

becasue of the amount of light they give out the coors get distorted

and the shifter lights i had to put 4 leds in there that are aimed perfectly up towards it...PITA to line up but i used blue leds and it lights up bright blue...same with my HVAC knobs

ptrudel 06-03-2004 02:41 PM

^mine are really green silent...not light at all...a nice bright but dark neon green

It is a 194 bulb. It is simple just lfit on the plastic peice it will come up. You will then see the light. It takes a slight twist and it will come out. Replace and put back together.

You wouldn't by chance have a pic of the red would you. Do not want pink interior.

yes but now if you have apinted pieces just wait untill ya get ur brun mark on there :)

i tryed that at first

194 led bulbs project so that didnt work and the normal blue bulbs fade in time so thats a pita

cherrington17 06-04-2004 12:10 AM

would it be possible (on the cathodes) to put a potentiometer in line to limit the amount of current, so they aren't so bright?
(...if desired of course)

^ thats where my nerdy job of a radioshack employee comes into play...

ptrudel 06-04-2004 08:28 AM

is that a fancy name for a dimmer?

Silentalero 06-04-2004 10:42 AM

yes bascily, what it does is it limits the amount of electricicty put out to the light....but see the problem is since the cathodes are built with a certasin amount of light output even dimming it wont change the color...just the way the tubes are made

ptrudel 06-04-2004 12:33 PM

ok well seein as it is just a fancy word for a dimmer...all it'll do is that..dim the light..dunno if it's good for the cathodes tho...mine is hooked up onto that system(out of sheer luck..couldn't find a power wire) it dims, but still same color...

StealthAlero99 06-09-2004 12:40 AM

question - what gives light to the HVAC controls? that and the prd123 (on the dash) are the only things that are still green in my car and i want blue, i put in a blue light under the prd123 lights by the shifter and the blue matches up perfect with my speedhut gauges... so i am hoping that the HVAC lighting is done by the 194 bulb as well

Silentalero 06-09-2004 02:13 AM

no hvac are actual bulbs soldered to a circuit board, so if ya wanna replace those, get handy witha soldering iron

StealthAlero99 06-09-2004 11:45 PM

meh, so did you cover those lights up somehow or did you just put the leds in and the leds overpowered the stock lights?

brim 06-11-2004 12:38 AM

can't tell on there

i'm lookin to change out the lights by the shifter myself, maybe it's doable with just LEDS

Also I WISH you could change the PRN123 in the middle of the gauge cluster

i'll toy with it tomorrow

Silentalero 06-11-2004 03:53 AM

no i put 4 leds on the top and took the factory lights out

scotttherock 06-11-2004 04:02 AM

for those of u that have installed these cold cathodes...what do u use as the power source?

ptrudel 06-11-2004 08:11 AM

any constant power will do...i was hooked up to the light in the cubby hole, cuz i can't see 'em till it's dark enough for the lights to come on anyways...

ShortysTRM 06-12-2004 01:52 AM

ok, it's late but I had to show you guys this...I bought Pilot 7 Color 194 LEDs and put one in the shifter and it looks sweet. It starts in Red but red doesn't show up and with the camera you can't see as much of a difference between colors and the light doesn't look as diffused, but it looks cool in person :D

ImSoBored 06-12-2004 11:42 AM

Ive got regular red neons, and theyre pretty red, also for the cuby light, I just took touch up paint to it, and now it shines red too

ShortysTRM 06-12-2004 05:46 PM

well, I thought it was cool at least <_< :D ;)

|Rev| 06-12-2004 05:53 PM

That's cool lookin shorty

ShortysTRM 06-12-2004 06:35 PM

Thanks REV

brim 06-12-2004 10:41 PM

agreed, pretty cool man

is it a constant changing tho?

Youngblood77 06-13-2004 09:48 AM

ImSoBored, how long have you had the touch-up paint on the cubby-hole light? I'm just wondering if the paint will fade in time or what. I'd like to do that, but I'm not gonna waste my time if it only lasts a couple months...

ShortysTRM 06-13-2004 06:56 PM

yeah, it just scrolls through 7 colors, fading in and out of each one. The red is not very visible, and most everything else comes out as a different shade of blue, green purple, or something in between. I paid $10 for 2 bulbs, so I still have another one to play with.
