Gauging Interest: Dampening Group buy

After chatting with ryan a while ago... he said something about www.secondskinaudio.com doing group buy deals on their damplifier mat.

I have no formal info on this, but i'm just wondering how many others might be interested in getting some.

its been as low as $1 per foot, apparently....

Dhoyle 03-03-2009 05:51 PM

id go for that :) i need some lmao, mostly my plate rattles like well lols really bad i need to stuff somethin behind it, and yes i have 4 bolts in it

AbHeLlRaZoR 03-03-2009 05:58 PM

I think that would be a good idea, I'm not one for buying stuff of the net but if the total cost including shipping comes up cheaper then what it would cost to go to best buy and buy Dynamat stuff I would be in.

Dhoyle 03-03-2009 06:00 PM

yea i went to circuit city, they wanted 33$ for a piece of dyno to go behind my license plate, i was like wow? expensive much? it was actully cheaper to get a square 5 by 5 or somethin cant remember the size? but it was for our front speakers and for 2 of em in a package it was 18$ i was like wtf?

AbHeLlRaZoR 03-03-2009 06:03 PM

yeah I know it's ridiculous how pricey that stuff is.

Caboose73 03-03-2009 06:04 PM

Im in

Valley olds 03-03-2009 06:05 PM

Sounds good. Around how much would I need for the doors? Maybe 16 sq ft for all four?

Dhoyle 03-03-2009 06:06 PM

yea no wounder why circuit city is goin out of buisness, their larger pieces of dyno is cheaper then the smaller pieces, i was like wtf? i was gonna buy but then this roostery mofo from their autodeparment started stalkin me (im 17 probly thought i was gonna steal) but ive had problems with him tryin to screw me outta money before. Hence why i stopped going there, but enough ranting, im all for this if this can become a group buy :)

cherrington17 03-03-2009 06:08 PM

i think around 20sqft per door.. maybe more.

i'm thinking if we can get that price, i'm in for at least $70.

salesmen tend to be that way when I went buy my amp I wanted JBL like my sub but they kept trying to get me to buy Alpine, but in the end I still bought a JBL amp now every time I go to best buy I have to know exactly what it is I'm looking for cause neither of the salesmen that were there that day will have anything to do with me.

YALEROYNOT 03-03-2009 06:14 PM

count me in for about 50 to 100 sq ft, the plan for the impala is eventually do the entire car, want it to be noise free inside and great sound from the 5.1 suround sound I am installing (true suround sound) .

Dhoyle 03-03-2009 06:16 PM

yea, he tried tellin me i needed 100$ whire kit, then he said he couldnt sell me a CD player with this ipod attachment cuz i wasnt getting it installed by them, when on their website they said the special was the CD player with free ipod cord and instalation, yea then he reported my debt card stolen too. lmao. but if it was 1$ a sq ft, id buy about 200$ worth? lols :)

AbHeLlRaZoR 03-03-2009 06:19 PM

100 sq feet sounds like plenty

Dhoyle 03-03-2009 06:21 PM

Lmao, my dad has an excursion also, and hes been bothering me about quotes.... id mat my whole car and part of his truck,

cherrington17 03-03-2009 06:27 PM

Rexter9x 03-03-2009 07:53 PM

so.. we're at ~700sqft already.

i'll have to have one of the ca forum guys pm him and find out what level he cuts deals at.

i honestly didn't think this would get so much attention.

itsbmw 03-03-2009 08:15 PM

I need it. especially with the new system I am getting

Oh and all I want is dynomat for the trunk, eff the doors haha.

cherrington17 03-03-2009 08:26 PM

doors and backseat area for me. eff the trunk.

Caboose73 03-03-2009 08:39 PM

would 100 be enough to do the whole car?

Ryan from Ohio 03-03-2009 08:40 PM

Last time I wanted Second Skin Damplifier ANT told me he would knock 20% off the price if I ordered direct...

The pricing for Second Skin is absolutely insane. I know I mentioned it to you, but I havent check prices in some time. $3-$2.25 a sq ft... F that.

For what its worth at this point Im going to try a few alternatives...

1) Peel & Seal
2) www.fatmat.com 100 sq/ft $130 SHIPPED w/roller/knife
3) www.mcmaster.com search # 9709T39 $1.39 sq foot
4) www.b-quiet.com 50 sq/ft = $85 = $1.70 sq/ft
5) www.edesignaudio.com $1/sq foot order as you like

Ranked in order...

But if I could get damplifier for $1 sq/ft shipped or cheap shipping, I would be down for 80-100 Sq ft.

cherrington17 03-03-2009 09:03 PM

well.. then i guess we do some research, as around and see what kind of deals we can get.

obviously we have quite a few of us looking for a great deal on mat.

and sorry ryan, i guess i misunderstood what you were saying before when you were talking about prices. (misread prices on various types)

99alerogirl 03-03-2009 09:06 PM

i just want to do the trunk... so what, maybe 30-50ft? but i'd definitely be down. been meaning to get this stuff for awhile, but i'm cheap :)

adam337 03-03-2009 09:12 PM

i may be in for about 100

Ryan from Ohio 03-03-2009 09:17 PM

Let me know and I will see what I can do. I know people.

I bet we could get Fat Mat 100 Sq ft packs for $100 shipped...

Heres the kicker:

http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

:ninja:

cherrington17 03-03-2009 10:13 PM

so according to that, fatmat is decent, but damplifier is great.

99alerogirl 03-03-2009 10:15 PM

i have a friend who would want in on this too!

Dhoyle 03-03-2009 10:19 PM

yea drop me back to 100 sq ft, im in it if its for around 1$ my dad told me he doesnt want his truck done lols

jabartram 03-03-2009 10:23 PM

i'm running fatmat, and so far it has done well. 50 sq.ft. did my trunk lid, trunk(including spare tire well) under rear seat and both front doors fully skinned.

doing the trunk helped immensely, i had alot of road noise and exhaust noise, had the run the system at higher volumes to drown it out, after the fatmat my car is much quieter system is much cleaner sounding, worth every hour and every penny.

cherrington17 03-03-2009 10:24 PM

50ft did all that?

if thats the case, i think we all need to adjust our numbers.

with the link ryan posted.. i'm just afraid of the adhesion problems fatmat might have with the freak heat and common cold we get here, year around. dark red car parked outside sealed up in the summer + subzero some nights in the winter...

i think the glue would break free after not too long.

Dhoyle 03-03-2009 10:25 PM

yea lmao, i was estimating maybe 180 for the whole car, then again its my first time so i bet ill have ALOT of scraps and uhm ooppsies lols?

jabartram 03-03-2009 10:30 PM

ive had a cheaper dampener that my brother sent me the extra he had that has been on my trunk lid for well over a year and has never even come loose, just use the roller and wipe all the dirt off, depending on where you are putting it most will be lying down anyways and held down by the weight of other things like the back seat.

Dhoyle 03-03-2009 10:32 PM

ok that sounds so simple i can do it :) lols, hopefully, cuz i dont know shit, my mom did used to illegally dragrace, but she wont help me >.< she says its for my own good? So sadly i gotta learn on my own :)

install it in smaller pieces, instead of the big pieces it comes packed in. and be prepared to get dirty.

clutch1 03-03-2009 10:41 PM

If we can get decent stuff for $1/sqft I suppose I'll got for 100.. my trunk rattles like you wouldn't believe!

AbHeLlRaZoR 03-03-2009 10:45 PM

I don't really care I just don't wanna rattle like all the other kids in town so 100 sq ft is all I will need

cherrington17 03-03-2009 10:46 PM

clutch and/or ryan (and whomever else is on ca.forums) you guys want to keep us alert of any deals they have going, or see if you can't find any connections to a good price?
