B&M Shift Kit

sorry AbheLLraZor i tried searching, got mixed results and just confused

if asking for any member using this product on an automatic ecotec to post your results and opinions

and what does this mean the B&M tricks the computer, it isnt one of those nightmare resistor products is it?

Im concerned about what harder shifts means and does this help or hurt gas mileage

AbHeLlRaZoR 04-19-2009 09:50 PM

well can't say I didn't try.

AleroDrime 04-19-2009 09:53 PM

you did and i appreciate it i read that and the forums i found, alotta questions on install, but no reviews afterwords

AleroDrime 04-20-2009 02:03 PM

bump. yall have them, just lemme know aobut em

AlbinoMonkeyRat 04-20-2009 04:31 PM

if you don't go to the racetrack with your car, don't even bother. These are a performance mod which helps knock off anywhere from .001 to .100 off a quarter-mile drag time on an automatic transmission.

knuckleballer32 04-20-2009 09:29 PM

i have one. install was ok. i highly recommend soldering it in if you get it. the result were fun i guess but like albino said its good for racing and knocking maybe a hundredth of a sec of. do it if you wanna feel a stronger shift. I am also pretty sure it would be good if your tranny ever starts to slip.

AleroDrime 04-20-2009 10:59 PM

for the price id like to try it, it wouldnt hurt my mileage would it?

and by stronger shift you mean better no physically harder right?

jayson_waltz 04-20-2009 11:24 PM

No it won't hurt your mileage, it just ups the shift pressures in the tranny. And yes, by that i mean a physically firmer shirt, like chrip tires into 2nd firm on the higher settings.

but for a dd, thats all its gonna be its a firmer feel. you won't see any gain unless you consistantly like to race up to speed on on ramp and at lights. it doesn't mess with the ecu at all so there is no pwer gain.

AleroDrime 04-21-2009 12:32 AM

ok this thing is a resistor set up though right, it makes perform better right, it does fool the motor into thinking it needs to work harder and keep it constant

jayson_waltz 04-21-2009 01:22 AM

no it doesn't fool the motor one tiny little bit. it just makes your tranny shift faster and firmer, that has absolutely no effect on the engine. it doesn't make it work harder cause it only affects the SHIFT pressures in the tranny computer. thats all. your motor doesn't even notice anything. the only thing it makes better "performance" wise (if you could call it that) if quiker gear changes, hence the slightly faster drag times.

if you are taking it to the strip a lot, yea great thing to have. if you are building more power, also nice to have. for just an air lintake in a daily driver, you will be disappointed you spent the money just to get a harsh jerk b/t gears.

btw,the above sounds kinda like i'm yelling, but i'm not. its just how i explain stuff when i'm tired.

AleroDrime 04-21-2009 12:33 PM

ok so i doint want this for daily driving, but i do horse off to strips, havent race the alero yet though its stock, cept for the intake, so it is possible to wire this in with a switch, like those venom power chips

Gr1m 04-21-2009 01:16 PM

wish you could use it with a tuned PCM, i'd be all over the one FS in the other thread.

AlbinoMonkeyRat 04-21-2009 01:56 PM

there is a switch on it, so it's not turned on all the time, but I wouldn't suggest getting it unless you race often. (off-stage 1-stage 2)

coolgrinder33 04-21-2009 02:58 PM

deffinatly helps performance.Gas millage im going to guess not so much.Honestly there really are not that many gas millage mods that will really make a difference. There is a couple, but you driving style will help the most

AleroDrime 04-21-2009 09:34 PM

i know theres no magic part to increase gas mileage, but somthing that adds a little or doesnt affect it, makes it more appealing to me, and im able to justify spending the money in my mind easier

plus itd be amazing if i ended up with an alero that averaged 37 or so highway, with out being gutted and chopped up to remove weight

Misuseofyou 04-21-2009 09:48 PM

I'm using it on an automatic w/ ecotec. I recommend, but if you drive like a granny (lol mileage?) don't bother. Much faster shifting, and keeps your RPMs up so if you're hard on the throttle you don't get jerked forward during a gear shift due to negative G force. If you're worried about how much you spend on gas don't get it, because it pushes back the shift point, to a higher RPM, which means more gas burned.

PS. You know mileage and the name AleroRacing don't really jive.

AleroDrime 04-21-2009 10:12 PM

so?, your mad caouse its not your name lol
i dunno i like the car to perform when i run it hard
i like to conserve when im just driving to work, living here its a 20-30 minute drive to anywhere, racing is pointless in a 55

when i first got my liscense i raced everywhere mad alotta troopers mad, they breathed down my neck everychance they got, only pinned ticket was a following too close though, but that was teh gayest possible he coulda wrote, points wise

Misuseofyou 04-21-2009 10:24 PM

I'm mad that you haven't had an up close and personal meeting with a telephone pole.

Gr1m 04-21-2009 10:26 PM

37mpg alero? ha i laugh at you.

AleroDrime 04-21-2009 10:53 PM

truck met a ditch once, drove out unharmed with the aid of a tow truck, it wasnt a 4x4

nixon 04-22-2009 09:39 PM

your gas mileage isnt going to go down the drain if you get the kit, it may hinder it a bit due to higher shift points but its not like its gonna be something extremely noticeable

Redog 04-22-2009 10:39 PM

It's OK but be sure to hook it up only once.

The dealership messed with mine and I had to rehook it and it didn't work right.

For like $10 more you can get a PCM and have a lot more options ;)

AleroDrime 04-22-2009 10:41 PM

eff so having the stock thing and that rigged in on an switch isnt an option?

Redog 04-22-2009 10:42 PM

With an aftermarket PCM, no

AleroDrime 04-22-2009 10:49 PM

no stock pcm

i would just like to point out... on my last trip to regina... i averaged 35.8mpg

yes... i know... it's not 37mpg

and no... that was not with the wind pushing me etc etc... that was filling it... driving it on highway... and filling it

Cliff8928 04-23-2009 12:43 PM

I could do that in mine too.. The window sticker says 37 MPG in fact.

yeah it aint like its a new malibu or something... hell if you want gas mileage buy a turbo diesel jetta rofl

nottooolds 04-23-2009 03:19 PM

ok, admitted newb to aleros, but not to modifying cars. not trying to undermine anybody, but aren't the B&M shift improvement kits ACTUAL plate, blockers, and check-ball assemblies that replace plates and check-balls INSIDE the transmission??? I'm not sure about this specific one, but for most rwd models (camaro, mustang, etc...) thats what they are. I know the alero isnt rwd, but shouldnt the principle be the same? any links available? I'd be glad to check this one out.

meadus101 04-23-2009 04:16 PM

The B&M Shiftplus is basically a module that interrupts the wiring to your transmission. it causes it to shift harder, better, faster stronger.

*insert Daft Punk*

nottooolds 04-23-2009 04:52 PM

OHHH!! ok! sorry, i wasn't sure. that sounds like a pretty good idea, but i agree that on a mostly stock, street driven car it would make little difference. for the cost though, if it'll make you happy go for it! :D

fixed

AleroDrime 04-23-2009 09:39 PM

the sticker that gave teh alero 37 was under the old epa system, you must look closer at those stickers now, the new epa system is extremly accurate, it is on point for all 7 vehicles around my house

They sell pcm's for the ecotec alero?

AleroDrime 04-25-2009 11:17 AM

i think some dude on here can reprogram ecotec pcms for you

Oldsman 04-26-2009 12:06 PM

the B&M will not affect gas mileage at all. It does increase shift firmness but you can switch the setting to off and not use it most of the time and when you want play around or go to the track then just switch it on.

this a great mod for $30-$40.

i thought i did a review in my install thread

knuckleballer32 04-26-2009 08:59 PM

i drove with it on today for the first time since install. its pretty fun to to drive with it on.

AleroDrime 04-27-2009 12:34 PM

oh its like the venom performance chip my friend has, you keep it on off except for when you want it, i didnt expect it to be like that, thats why i mentioned wiring in a switch, in that cas im ready to do this agian, i dont want somthing thats gonna suck mileage down during daily cruising, but who cares about mileage if your racing to a track, that defys the point

to shorten this up, if theres a switch to off, im game

Redog 04-27-2009 02:11 PM

The shiftplus has a toggle switch. Center is off, one side is #1 and the other side is #2.

It's a good mod to do for the money. A little hard to hook into the hardness, but it works. Look up Oldsman's how to:

The mod will work with all 3 Alero powerplants ;)

Gee look what I found, I used that crazy little button called "search" go figure :p

http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showt...ight=shiftplus

and

http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showt...ight=shiftplus

And I know it's listed for a Camaro. Scot did it, I did it, and a few other people did it with the same kit, OK I can close this now ;)

Caboose73 04-27-2009 06:00 PM

I cant wait to see the post of him trying to wire this thing in
