Gauging interest on getting a Carbon fiber hood for our cars!

RSM Racing has a guy that can do custom jobbies.
Once a mold is made, we too can have hoods!!!

Now, a verbal quote was $700 CDN which is pretty good.

If ya think you're interested, sign up. So far, there's no commitment :)

So it wouldn't look too ricey....

kwhauck 07-11-2004 05:50 PM

may be interested, depends on what kind of style carbon fiber hood, the under bracing, total weight difference, colored carbon/kevlar hoods be available, and how much is $700 cdn, i don't know the conversion rate....

I think it's only "ricey" if you have a CF hood and your car is still a slow piece of crap because you're just fakin the funk. A CF hood is a "performance" mod, and any nutcase who buys one just for the sole purpose that it's CF and loox cool is a complete ass..................IMO

I'd paint a real carbon fiber hood in a second. If there were a HUGE weight difference, I'd buy one and paint it to match the rest of the car..... B)

Because a black hood on any other color of car is mother bunnyin ugly

Sportalero 07-11-2004 07:07 PM

^^Actually, I beg to differ. With CF having that black/gray-ish look to it, on a black car, it would almost seem as though the hood was ashy. And even though you'll know it's a CF hood, it'd still look off-color. In fact, a black car is the only color that i would say that you "should" paint the hood to match. But take a CF hood with a red or white car, some carbon or gunmetal shoes, and dark tint, you got yourself a nice looking car.

b-spot 07-11-2004 07:23 PM

^ I wasn't meaning to imply that a CF hood looks good unpainted on a black car, but just that if you take a hood of a black car and stick it on any other color it looks like crap. Just as CF being a different color than the rest of your car (even if its black) looks like you are piecing together a car out of the junkyard.

Sportalero 07-11-2004 07:43 PM

^^I got what you're saying now, and i've actually seen some jackasses with black hoods on their car. Ugliest crap ever. But i guess we're just of two different minds on the CF hood. Carbon fiber makes a statement all it's own. And I'm not talking about guys who buy it to dress up their engine bays and interior. To me, putting CF hood on a barely modded car is an like ahoe who has "Turbo-kazoo" exhaust tips when they're engine is NA. Like i said uptop, a CF hood is a performance mod, that's why i wouldn't even consider getting one until my car was truly race worthy. Then I would get a CF hood AND a spoiler in keeping with my car's true purpose, and if a chump thinks i'm flossin my CF just to be flossin, then i'll be more than happy to prove them wrong.

Carbon Fiber Hoods are a privilege, not a right

b-spot 07-11-2004 07:56 PM

^Lol.. yeah, I saw a white lude here with a painted black hood. Looked sooo ghey.

I think it was Yiddishbbq though that had a CF hood that was colour matched to his ruby red car, but it was transparent so you could still see the fibres. I really liked the look of his, and would deffinately go for something like that.

Yeah, I am not sure if I would paint mine. I think it would look good on a silver car unpainted

fusion 07-11-2004 10:38 PM

Well, it all depends on the person rite?
Some will use it to lighten, some will do it for show.
In any event, they are a car enthusiast

Yeah, shipping is going to be a big deal. I know it will have to come truck freight, but just how much would that cost?

MikeSS 07-12-2004 07:57 PM

A friend of mine has a CF hood on his Grand am. It makes the hood soooo much lighter. I think it is worth it.

Definately interested, count me in, but let me know WAY in advance when I gotta pay and how much, because I gotta save for it

yo I'm in on this If you seen my pics recently you can see why!!(pics are in showcase) Just let me know everything you need $$ info I live in the GTA area Toronto. defintely in YES YES YES

Redog 07-12-2004 10:13 PM

I'd paint it for sure. Any pics, I'm a maybe

d00fN00BeR 07-13-2004 03:34 PM

good thing im getting a new job with better pay. i should have enough money soon to get the hood. id love it if he went thru with the idea.

flalero 07-13-2004 06:22 PM

I don't think I would paint mine. I like the way the CF contrasts.

kwhauck 07-13-2004 07:25 PM

again i ask the questions, before i will commit i would like to know about the hood, weight differences, oem or scoop, etc, just get us or at least me a little more info....

flalero 07-13-2004 08:10 PM

well, I don't know any specifics, but I can tell you there is a significant difference in weight. I can't give you specific numbers, but I can tell you this. A carbon fiber hood can be picked up with one hand, try doing that with your stock hood.

smokinAMD 07-13-2004 10:45 PM

I'm a maybe as well.

kwhauck 07-14-2004 05:06 PM

yeah i know that too but i want some specifics weight can be a huge difference or a minor one depending on the under bracing of the hood, also i already has an oem carbon fiber hood and it was nice but a scoop is way more desirable (i also guarantee my old cf hood is was lighter than these ones will be if they get produced because my old hood had no bracing at all, just the carbon fiber) now if people are looking for performance that is the way to go, personally though i think most carbon fiber hoods are for looks, i mean big deal if you save like maybe 50 lbs for $500-$600, the price you are paying is mostly for looks, bottom line.......just my 2 cents

flalero 07-14-2004 05:21 PM

^^agree, cf, in this case is pretty much just for looks, that's what I'm going for on this.

shox 07-14-2004 09:10 PM

yes and a cf hood would look fking so nice.

IndyAlero 07-15-2004 09:08 AM

Im down it sounds cool so count me in....

A yiddish barbeque sounds delicious. No bacon tho lol. Anyways, yes i have one of the few c.f. hoods that were made, and i had it painted because there were some imperfections in the resin and chips on the sides from shipping. However, if another run of these is made, i would highly recomend that there is bracing on the underside of the hood. The one i have has no bracing, and vibrates like a bitch above 55 on the freeway. Heres the link to pics of it: Yes i have a c.f. hood
