Been checking out some dash kits for Aleros on a few sites. Pretty decent price, but would it be a good idea? Thinking about a Black Carbon Fiber....

I was interested too but decided against it because I think there are pretty cheap looking. I haven't seen a pic of the black carbon fiber though so I can't say for sure about that one. I have seen the wood grain and it looks pretty good in some cars with the right color scheme.

I've heard tales that those kits don't fit as uniformed as the stock trim. But no one has ever posted a pic of a BAD kit installation, so it could go either way. Just paint it and be done with it :lol:

Not.............quite sure what that means. But if it's more of a necessity rather than just an upgrade, go for it. Or you could be the "thrifty shopper" and go to a salvage yard and pick one up.

I have a black carbon fiber kit that I have had for a year and never put it on my car lol. Now I think I have decided to paint my interior it so I would be willing to sell it for cheap just to get rid of it. I can take pics if you want.

If I am thinking correctly of what you are talking about, the dash kits will not take care of the "buckling" problem you are having. Dash kits are designed to go around the radio, gauges, etc. All of the places that have hard plastic. It sounds like you are having the same problem I am having with my dash, the vinyl is coming up near the windshield. To solve that, you might have to get some professional vinyl help.

OK...........that's makes more sense. Couldn't figure out for the world how molding could buckle. But like fl said, professional help is needed for this problem. Maybe a new material cuz the factory stuff is cheap.

That's what I meant. Not to good with interior problems. Wasn't quite awake when I posted this either...had to be at work for 4:30am and don't get off till 5pm. (TURNAROUNDS SUCK). Anyway, I would like to see some pictures of the dash kit WC. Looking into getting one of those.

If you do decide to go with the carbon fiber dash kit, post some pics please. I know myself, I've wanted to do that but didn't want to spend the money before seeing it done in someone elses car.

i have the black carbon fiber dash kit, and i like mine it looks really good
now being that thiss tuff is basicly thicker vinyl prep work is everything
first thing you should do is clean the pieces off with a good wax and grease remover i used dx440
dry fit the dash kit on to the interior pieces
have a heat gun or hair drier ready it helps with adhesion and makes the dash kit form to the pieces
make sure as you are heating the dash kit to be pressing down on the kit while it takes shape
i have had on mine on for a yr and it still loks great
i bought it off of ebay for 150
please don`t paint the interior to me that looks so tacky and ungly even if it`s done right these aren`t imports we drive this is a domestic car leave the painted interior`s to them

I like the kit that Bdyman has in his car, but I don't think it will look right in mine

He has the gray interior and I have the tan

If I ever get some free money, I'm going to start working with a company to do a process where they coat the actual hard plastic interior pieces with brushed aluminum or carbon fiber and then use automotive grade clearcoat over it to make it look really good.

IMO, those dash kits don't look very good because they never fit quite right. Painting the hard plastic looks better IMO.

Hey Chris do you have pics of your dash? My interior is grey also, so if you had pics, that would help me out a lot in my decision. But don't go out of your way just to get a pic. I know you've got a lot going on, getting ready for this weekend and all.

Nick, that would be a pretty good investment, imo. You would probably get a lot of interest in it.

Just out of curiousity, what would be the difference in buying an already made kit and having someone cut the vinyl out? The reason I'm asking is that a friend of mine has a sign shop here in town and he does a really good job with vinyl graphics. He gave me some vinyl a while back to experiment with on my taillights. After I showed him what I came up with and how awful it looked after a couple of days, he somehow printed out a new design for me and is in the process of getting it printed out on carbon fiber vinyl. I was just wondering if there is much, or if any, difference in ordering it or having him do it for me. Is this a different type of vinyl that is used on the dash kits or what?

If you get a vinyl one cut it will be really thin. I got a brushed aluminum dash kit off ebay and installed it VERY CAREFULLY, once you touch it to the hard plastic of your car you can't move it. Its pretty thick as its platic thats poured into moulds the shape of your car parts. it has really strong 3m sticky glue on the back, and has stayed on without any problems for over a year now. I'd recommend it over painting, as i've seen imports done and the paint always seems to weat off. heres a pic, i have a brushed aluminum quage bezel installed as well, good luck.

Hey got any pics of your interior..?

My brushed aluminum dash kit was $150 off ebay, but i know the price varied depending on the whether i ordered brushed aluminum, a wood grain, carbon fibre, or solid colours ( not sure which is most expensive tho. heres another picture around my drivers column.

turtle, that looks good! i'm gonna check into that as well. price doesn't matter as much to me as quality and appearance.

since when were imports the ones that started painting interior pieces?

this is something that could be debated on forever and no one can really say who started it first.
