New Project

idk if anyone has done it or not, but i just ordered the strip leds i need to do this..

i am making audi R8 inspired led headlights, like the strip led that goes along the bottom,,

while i install those i am also putting in bright white leds in the corner bulb and big amber one.. the led strip will be wired into the big bulb to be on all the time and with the turn signal flash...

i will also be painting a litle more of the headlight bezel, and the led strips are black so they will be hidden nicely not standing out...

what you guys think? i will have pics up as i do it...

oh and HID foglight kit to match the low beams is on the way for christmas ;)

MotorCity 11-30-2009 06:11 PM

if ya do it right it will look cool i think

DansGen1Alero 11-30-2009 06:29 PM

post some mock pics (photoshop) or drawing. I know what your talking about but sometimes seeing the final product may help in determining if its the look you want.

on the surface i would say hell yea, I like that look, but I think those LEDs are larger like maybe the size of a 194?

worknprog.99 11-30-2009 06:56 PM

are you refering to the led strips? cause they are smooth to the touch the bulbs dont stick out and they are bright as hell...and the corner is a 194 and the amber one is getting a 25 led bulb from superbright led.com you can go on and look at them

DansGen1Alero 11-30-2009 07:07 PM

no I mean the strip on the audis, they are like only 6 or 7 LEDs but i guess they are larger then a normal sized LED, or are they clusters of several?

worknprog.99 11-30-2009 07:12 PM

i think they just stick out... theses arent meant to be replica just inspired by...

the led strip will go across the whole bottomof the bezel or at least most of it...

those along with the HID and LED lights the strip will look in place.. worste case it doesnt work i un do it no biggy... i think it will look good

it wont be hard either maybe 2 hours not including dry time.. i have had them apart before if you notice my profile pic the corners are clear lol

and im removing the front plate and braket so it will look even cleaner

That01Olds 11-30-2009 07:26 PM

I definitely want to see pics when your done cause I think it would look good.

they will get done within a day or two after i recieve the leds... i ordered them today

DansGen1Alero 11-30-2009 07:49 PM

cant wait to see what it turns out like....I think even if you fail I think pics would be nice, and that way maybe someone can give advice or tweak to make it work better, before you undo and scrap it

worknprog.99 11-30-2009 10:09 PM

i will not fail..... lol
as soon as the stuff gets here i start , i will post up pics as i go

DansGen1Alero 11-30-2009 10:30 PM

lol ok, i meant that in the most positive way with utmost faith in you, but as in, in case, lol

lol its cooll i have my doubts too... i think i will run them with a bypass switch tho so if i want i can have them not on with the headlights so they wont be automatic always

Chris2000 11-30-2009 11:28 PM

Glad to see someone else doing this, i was looking into trying this.

alero_bmxer 11-30-2009 11:31 PM

^ x2. been looking into it for a while

Chris2000 11-30-2009 11:35 PM

Also, once you get them installed, play around with them for a look that would suit it best. Like, if they don't look right on the bottom try them on the top.

worknprog.99 11-30-2009 11:36 PM

well im hoping i get the led strips soon!!! the shipping says 7 to 10 buisness days, i cant wait to get to try it i have been thinking about it for a while now...

on the 99 the big amber bulb is always on and constantly having power correct?

alerocar01 12-01-2009 12:23 AM

been wanting to do this too. just wasn't sure how it would look.

El Pablo 12-01-2009 12:32 AM

I can't wait to see them

hok666 12-01-2009 01:02 AM

good luck with the project.. I have been thinking of doing stuff like the audi for a while now actually..

worknprog.99 12-01-2009 10:31 AM

well looks like im gona pioneer the idea lol.... hope it looks decent...

anyone know if the big amber bulb is always on when the car is whether the headlights are on or not?

DansGen1Alero 12-01-2009 10:49 AM

the big amber is a parking light, so if parking lights are on then yes. There was a recent discussion about it, if i recall its like a 3156/3157 and a dual filment? (parking and turn) and the corner bulb (194 is just turn?) anyone wanna second or nix?

Nate's Alero 12-01-2009 10:57 AM

done with projectors, i'm just not showing anyone yet, it's not even in the car, only been powered up once, full R8 Styling, that turn amber with the Tsignal, Low/High Projector's, and complete finished bezels, gloss black... DRL has been transferred to the white LEDS and the bulb has been cancelled out

worknprog.99 12-01-2009 11:00 AM

^^^thanks nate now i dont even want to do this anymore since i was going to just simply put the led strip as an add on the the headlight and 2 leds for turn signals... not nearly as dramatic as what you did.. fml
LOL

dude, do it, you NEED to, mine's not even done.... i have no life... just do it... i'm having problems anyway, AND i've been protoyping for a year now... dont worry, just do it

worknprog.99 12-01-2009 11:19 AM

im not doing projectors or anything nuts lol, just the strip led wired into the turn signal/running lamp with a master switch to turn them off as desired, and painting a little more of my bezel and adding leds to my turn signal and amber one... and HID fogs... nothin nuts haha

might as well do it. some people might like it, and do it the way you did. different options are good

dont care what any of you think...

kwhauck 12-02-2009 03:49 PM

why so secrective I just want to know what is done to your car, i have seen you mention turbo here and there, but curious. There are only 5 or 6 of us boosted aleros, i would like to know if there is going to be another one.....

and eat those words? if you run a 14 i will congratulate you, but until you actually run a time on a track you can't spout off that you run said time....

worknprog.99 12-10-2009 11:02 PM

ok so i was doing some thinkin and i came across a problem, hopefully someone jumps in and can explain, ...

how do i wire in the led strip to be on all the time with the 3157 bulb AND flash on and off with it when the turn signal or hazard is on..... nate? cherry? anyone??

a4d2a0m 12-11-2009 09:49 AM

The outer 194 bulb stays on all the time with the running lights and shuts off with the blinker(no dual filament) wiring the led strip to it should work for ya.
