Hey everybody
Hey everyone, my name is Tom. I'm 17 and have been cruising the forums here for a couple months. I have a 1999 blue pearl colored 3400 V6 4-door sedan. I believe it is a GLS. Not sure though. It is my first car and I love it! I also love tinkering with it. I mostly focus on appearence since I don't know much about cars as far as under the hood goes, but I'll eventaully get into performance upgrades.
The mods I've done so far include, painted stock rims black with silver lips, blue 12" Led bars in the footwells, blue 15" neon tubes under the seats, i've also changed all the interior lighting to blue 194s and 211s. I think that's what the bulbs are... I've also changed my gauges to blue 194s also. I have blue HVAC knobs currently and I'm still in the process of painting and dying the interior blue/black. I also tinted my tails. I got this car from a local seller who fixed it up after it was totalled for about 2 grand. My future plans are to install a sound system, do the mesh grille mod, clear my corners, tint the windows and possibly install a CAI. I am very open to opinions And suggestions. I love learning about this car from those who have good experience. So feel free to suggest things to me! Thanks! (I would put up some pics of the car but I haven't figured out how to upload pictures from my cell yet.) |
Welcome from the Volunteer state. Definitely need some pics though man lol.

Welcome to the site. What part of Minnesota you from?
I'm running on wifi and my iPod touch right now so I could probably upload a few if I knew how. How would I go about sending them to my e-mail? and I'm from the white bear lake/st. Paul area.
if you have picture messaging you should be able to send to email, at least i know i can send to mine with sprint. idk about how to do it with an ipod i would guess you should be able to the way you would with a computer.
I have t-mobile. And I can send and receive pics. Just not sure on how to send them to my email.
Have a touch download the photobucket app. Create an account upload pics in app. Then go into safari and goto photobucket login click a pic then click get urls then copy the very last one and paste it here.
welcome tom!!
welcome to the site
welcome ot the forum
The pics are on my phone. Does photobucket have a mobile upload option?
I do this all the time. Just send a picture message to your email. Instead of sending it to a contact, just type in xxxxxxx@gmail.com or whatever. Then you can directly upload from your computer, and do it through photobucket or tinypic or w/e.
I tried that but it won't let me change to letters. I'll make a photobucket account and see if there are any mobile uploading options.
Welcome.

Alright, I figured it out. Haha. The car needs a wash and wax but, here's a bunch of pics.

And I know you guys are going to tell me to take the fake vents off, but they are real carbon fiber accents. Not the cheap Wal-mart ones or the ones with mesh in them. I got them from a friend for my birthday and i personally like the look. |
Carbon fiber or not, if they aren't functional, they just add weight, which is the whole point of CF if I'm not mistaken. But as long as you like it, that's all that matters! You did a good job on the tails, but I would do the third brake light as well.
really liking the wheels. lose the vents and pinstripe. and the interior doesnt seem to match the outside.
The pinstripe was on it when I got it. I'm afarid to remove it in case of sun damage.
The interior doesn't match the outside though. The paint is a very hard color to match. It involves mixing pearl, pink, green, blue and white. And I couldnt find vinyl dye or any krylon fusion in the correct colors needed. The paint and dye do match the seat covers and steering wheel cover I also got for my birthday in so I think it works alright in my opinion... Btw whiterider, I really like what you did with your tails. I was considering that idea for my tails, but the paint is really tough to do to get it right. (At least for me anyways.) |
Welcome. Take the vents off. They just make you look like a total newbie to vehicle modification. Every POS car around here has Buick fender vents stuck on them.

duplicolor makes just about every factory color in spray and touch up paint. check auto parts stores or even walmart. if not try the duplicolor website. |

Yep those vents will slow you down about .001 on the drag strip since they weigh not even a pound. If you like them keep it, most people generally choose not to go to autozone to mod there car but if it makes you happy go for it. :) |
I know, I was thinking that, but he was making a point that they're not crappy plastic and real carbon fiber. Just the fact that something carbon fiber that isn't functional or replacing a part on the car seemed contradictory to me. But yea, if you like em, keep em and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Well I guess they were like $50 for the 6 of them. They came from somewhere online. That's what my buddy who gave them to me said. Haha. But I have no engine mods so I'm not going to be puttin it to test anytime soon. I'll try to get a picture of them up tomorrow because they are a lot better quality than walmart. I just like them because I'm a carbon fiber fan and I'm too poor to afford a hood or anything major that's real carbon fiber other than those accents. Lol
welcome tom, your alero is the same color as my old one, it's opal blue metallic if you didn't know.
Quote:
duplicolor doesn't have this color in rattle can, they only have it in the little touch-up bottles, if he wants spray paint so he can match the factory color he has to order it from the dealer like i had to for my old alero. i bought 2 cans but never got to do what i wanted to with it because i totaled the car. |

:O there like $12 at autozone damn. |
Ok thanks dragon for clearing that up! I didn't really know how to describe it. Haha. But no they're the real ones. The ones at walmart and autozonre are the carbon fiber LOOK ones. Mine are real. And look a lot higher quality than the cheapo ones.
