The gifted Alero

So I got the 2000 alero 2.4L 5spd from my cousin for free since he was going to scrap it after 3 years of it sitting in his garage. Got it towed to the dealership i was working at, threw a battery in and it started right up! From his garage to insured and plated it cost me $710 which includes 2 tires, rear rotors and pads, 1 outer tie rod and alignment, and 1 3rd brake light bulb! Came with 131 500 km's (little under 82 000 miles). Also came with every service receipt since my cousin brings his cars to the dealership for every single little thing. Even got the original window sticker! and apparently this was the only Alero with these options in black in Ontario at the time.

I've now had it 6 months and the List of stuff done to it (optional and fixing broken crap):
4 New tires
Ceramic pads all around
4 new rotors
Power Steering pump
Clear Corners (with chrome bulbs that light up amber)
WAI
Tinted Windows 35% up front (changing to 17% soon), and 5% all around the back
Removed Spoiler
Debadged Trunk
Sound system including Jvc Deck, Mtx 12" Jackhammer Subwoofer in a Mtx Ported box tuned for the sub, Mtx Jackhammer Amp, Alpine 6x9's and dynomat in the trunk.
And most recently put DropZone springs on.
(Don't forget to laugh at my license plate! Its not custom trust me)

These pics were all taken over the last 2 days, the rust on the hood is the only rust on the entire car.

Good view of rust:

Tinting the taillights soon, just waiting for the tint guy at work to bring me in the VHT nightshade since you can't find it here. Also putting on the rims from my friends 2001 Chrysler Lhs (seen below) since hes upgrading from the 17's to 20's.

black 09-06-2010 07:57 PM

you did a great job!!!

wrestlingandrunning 09-06-2010 08:20 PM

Nice find!

mrmike 09-06-2010 08:32 PM

haha your license plate says BJAY haha

Casper 09-06-2010 08:47 PM

Thanks, and yes it does say BJAY, need to replace the front license plate cover since the wash at work broke it completely.

robalero 09-06-2010 09:27 PM

not bad at all, I like the price you paid for it lol and it beats my price of $400 that I paid for mine

edit:

how are the dropzone springs? did it take long for shipping? does it handle any better or is it just lowered feel? I am looking into a set for mine come winter time to store for the spring and gotta ask the questions ahead of time

That01Olds 09-06-2010 10:43 PM

Nice find man. You did a really good job too. The car looks really nice. I'm also glad to see that you saved it from the scrapper. That's 1 for Alero and 0 for Junkyard.

they bounce a little bit, but the handling does feel better. The guy at mad racing concepts sent the billing info on tuesday afternoon to UPS, package was shipped tuesday night and was delivered at 2 pm thursday not far from toronto, ontario. (Came from york, PA) so id say its pretty fast.

Thewolf 09-07-2010 06:58 AM

Nice looking Alero! You should tint the windows a lil darker :p but you don't want to attract the Toronto police haha. We should all southern ontario folks should plan a meet somewhere.

Rexter9x 09-07-2010 04:34 PM

I second the Ontario meet!

trumpetplayer91372 09-07-2010 06:30 PM

Will those LHS wheels bolt right on or do you need anything additional to make them work?

I know someone with the same ones and if their LHS eventually goes bad, i would throw them on my Alero if it isn't much work.

You can buy it at Canadian Tire now... That is where I got mine for my tail lights...
Nice looking car... And I do agree we should get a southern Ontario meet arranged... Once I get mine fully on the road!!! I am aiming for the end of the month...

Definitely would look forward to a southern ontario meet!.

Also welcome to the forums and nice job with the alero!

tw0123 09-08-2010 10:29 AM

next question... where would we all meet? seems most are located close to Toronto, or within an hour or two...
any suggestions for a spot?

yes they bolt right on, but your speedo will be off using the Lhs tire size

Thewolf 09-08-2010 04:12 PM

I used to live in Brampton about 3 months ago. And I'm going to move to Scarborough in about 5 months. So I'll be closer.

02AleroEco 09-09-2010 09:29 AM

Very nice looking! props dude.

The one thing i could wish was that for the 2004 style 16" rim, be made into a 17" or maybe an 18". Then painted Gunmetal, i think would flow great with the dropzones

those would be nice rims

an alero meet would be cool as i dont see anyone but old people driving them around here

*UPDATE*
Tinted tail lights, they will be getting redone!

Casper 10-06-2010 10:53 PM

Bored today so I decided to paint my rims.. It's fine to get me through the winter and onto aftermarkets next summer! Im aware many on here don't like painted stockers, so let the shit fly! lol. (I know I know! My car is dirty! :ninja: )

Night shot (with flash)

tw0123 10-06-2010 11:07 PM

Tails look good... why do you have to redo them?

also, when are we going to have the ontario meet??? winter is coming lol...

cavaliers60 10-06-2010 11:14 PM

why couldn't you just leave them stock and purchase the rims..... It looks horrible in my opinion, but I hate all black rims to begin with. I just don't like the look of an ALL BLACK car... I like my little bit of chrome. :coolio:

Your entitled to your opinion, Its not all black yet! I like chrome too, but I had alloy rims.. didn't like them much as I've been seeing a lot of aleros around lately, when i get aftermarket rims they'll end up being chrome

I actually fixed the problem without having to redo them, but im down for a meet whenever, Just got fired from Toyota so lots of free time (I guess they knew i didn't like jap cars haha)

cavaliers60 10-07-2010 12:00 AM

Sounds good. I'm a big fan of black cars with Chrome rims. Always been my kind of car. Just not entirely black. I love the tails. If I did mine, I'd do them like that. You should paint your headlight bezels black too. I think it would look pretty cool.

I may just smoke the entire headlight after I get hid's, seen a lot of pickups and suv's with it done around here and they dont get hassled. I was extra bored last night and sprayed a bit of nightshade on my license plate covers so their just that little bit darker (still readable though as I had my plates ran at least 4 times today)

Tuesday night in a 20 minute drive my plates were ran 3 times..
Wednesday had them run 4 times in a little over an hour, cop even changed direction to follow me when I drove past the bank and he was pulling out to the right, he decided to pull out to the left after being halfway out.

Last week I had one follow me around the mall by my house, see which way I was going to turn and cut up the parking lot to get in front of me, stopped and held up traffic going the opposite way just so he could see who was driving the car (thru the windshield obviously)

Ttop191 10-07-2010 02:20 PM

it's probably because of your tint, tint law for toronto is 35% so obviously you are barely legal there, idk about its laws about tinted tails either...plus with it being totally murdered out they probably think you work for the mob :emotlol:

also...should revert the olds symbols on the center caps back to silver, would be a good offset

was thinking of doing the indentions in the middle of the spokes a silverish,
My fronts are 35% and my back are legal (5%) cuz we can have whatever we want on the back. Taillight law is brake lights must be visible from 150 - 200 feet, cant remember exact number. We have a special drug and gang enforcement unit in this area and they have cars and their drivers, any known associates, plates of other cars they're known to be in noted on file, so their probably just checking out my car as it changes so much and ends up looking like a new car to the area to them, For anyone from Toronto, its the same type of unit they use in Jane and Finch area.

I had my plates ran a lot in a silver 2005 pontiac sunfire with fishbowl windows and black steelie rims (can be seen in a picture on first page) lol.

We need to get that southern Ontario meet going! Weather is supposed to be nice for a little while!

robalero 10-07-2010 06:55 PM

I see you have crappy tire rotors, how are they holding up for you?

Now I understand why the cops are running your plates all the time... Peel - no deal.
I used to live 5 minutes from you - in Streetsville. Now I'm in North York.

Casper 11-10-2010 02:42 PM

Last 2 pictures of my Alero alive..

The Alero Now....

Whats left of my front bumper...

While cleaning out the car, I found the original window sticker (among every service record up to the end of warranty)

hok666 11-10-2010 03:18 PM

sorry dude that sucks, I love mine to much to have that happen. hopefully you get your moneys worth out of it and buy another one

Ttop191 11-10-2010 03:53 PM

What The eff Happened?????

Mike The Canadian 11-10-2010 03:58 PM

Holy crap dude that sucks!
You holding up alright after that man?

Rexter9x 11-10-2010 06:34 PM

na, I'd rather get the money from the insurance

Ttop, a 67 year old lady turned made a left turn on a red turn signal in front of me (i was entering the intersection at 70 km/h) and I t-boned her, no one was hurt thank god. Can see the side of her car below (its dented in about a foot and a half)

Mike thanks for asking, Im fine except for the anger I feel when I see the empty driveway. Just got home from the doctors and all they found was a possible pinched nerve on top part of my spine, a strained back and just general soreness but its only the first day, it'll probably get worse. He said I can go to work tomorrow if i want so i definitly will be.
