My Plans...
1: Body kit
2: Paint 3: 3.5L Shortstar engine 4: Turbo 5: Other mods Finally got my license and now I'm ready to mod. :awesome: |
My guess, you'll do none of the above.
|
might be better off going with the 3500 part swap, rather than whole engine swap.
check www.wot-tech.com if you haven't already. |

What? I don't understand what you mean by that. :wtf2: |

:haha: :haha: now i have to agree with zol |
Man, why does everyone have to be such a rooster on here? I may not be the brightest when it comes to cars, but for god's sake, lay off the harsh comments! :(

In that case, give me all your money and I'll tell you your car is faster because you have NO IDEA what you are doing or getting into. If you want to learn, search button and ask questions. Also check out 60degreeV6.com which is Ben's site, the owner of WOT-tech.com |

What do you want to do? Let's start with that. Don't say "I want to have a super fast car to race Honduhs all day long" |
1-3 show us install and modification of how your going to put the short star in that would be cool to see...
|

I want to tune my car and make it show-worthy. Make it worth more than the $500 they quoted it to be worth. |
It can be done, the Alero OSV had that engine, but only one or 2 of those cars were made and I think they are both crushed now :(
Isn't that a 90* engine? |
Quote:
So let's start with a trip to local auto parts store and pick up some cleaning stuff A car can be fast or slow, but looking good is always looking good ;) |
Quote:
Trust me... I keep my cars clean. I cannot stand any little flaws. It may need to be scrubbed out, but it is clean otherwise. |
car looks good but you will want to start with simple mods like a CAI and exhaust.
|

That is also on my list. Just need to get the money and/or sponsors to get them. |
if you plan on going turbo why not just do a 3500 top swap? would be more worth-while unless you stay N/A..
|
Quote:
well good luck finding sponsors I would just save the money. |
Quote:
Okay.... Again, I am new to this. What is a "Top Swap"?? |
A top swap is when you swap the 3400 upper an lower intake manifolds for the 3500 intake manifolds. The 3500 intakes have better air flow than the 3400 intake manifolds.
|

Thank you. |
no problem how many miles on the engine.
|
I am going to do anything I can to make my car faster, and more powerful. Top swap, turbo, CAI, etc... ANYTHING.
|
ok but how many miles on the engine because the 3400 engines are known to have headgasket and intake gasket issues.
|
ok so give me 10k, and ill give you award winning paint and body work
|
with the 3500 LIM you will need 3500 heads too, you can use a 3500 plenum with a 3400 lower and heads though.
|
ya but it is all worth the money if you are going to turbo.
|
if you want to build the engine and mod the exterior. You are going to be spending a good amount of money.
|
I always come in and seem like an a-hole I realize..I guess im just straight forward. This kid is not going to do anything to his car except maybe an intake. "I just got my license" and "i don't think my parents would be too happy about be emptying my bank account to buy the osv kit" should be enough to laugh to yourself and not post anything serious.
Judging by his questions about basically everything I can guarantee he will not be installing anything himself including his "turbo" which means he is going to get raped if he does manage to somehow gather everything he needs and finds a shop patient enough to not send him home when he walks in. Anyways... going back to the thing about him emptying his bank account, he mentioned he has 575-600$ Turbo parts and shop labor and tune ~$2000 Intake ~$50-75 Exhaust and shop labor... ~$500+ Ebay chip ~$1-$100 OSV Kit $650. + install, I'll leave that one up to your imagination. I figured I'd throw the ebay chip on there since i'm an ass and I'm predicting a thread already asking about them in the future. |
you forgot the engine build and that is another 2000 bucks or more.

Sponsors, not gonna happen, and don't fall for the "car Sponsors" web site Kiddo, we are not trying to sound mean on here, but what you are talking about is a ton of money. You can save some cash by doing things yourself, but you have to learn. Aleromod is a great learning tool. Most of us have been there one way or another with the car enough to know what a problem is right off the bat. Some guys took months to figure out why the 2 lowest setting on the HVAC system didn't work, but by the time it happened to me on a Friday night going to work, it was a trip to Pep Boys on Saturday. Let's face it. You just got you license and I feel that you want a "fast" car so you can go out and "stomp" Civics all night long and think that the "Po-Po" can't catch you. It's good to think big, but at this rate, you're going to be throwing a bunch of parts at your car and nothing is going to work together. Let's start small. Go on eBay and pick up an intake, then go to Summit and buy a K&N filter for said intake. The eBay tubing is fine, but the filters are crap and could and probably will damage your engine in the long run. In all will shipping you're looking at about $100- $125 Then pick out a muffler and get your exhasut done and that's about $400 at least, if you pick out a DECENT muffler and not some eBay crap. After that sticker shock sets in, post your plans again Quote:
Only when ported. And the other thing, you're so ready to mod the crap out of your car, but don't know what a 3500 top end swap is. I just find this very very ---->:rotflmao: :emotlol: |
Honestly dude...you're way too ambitious... your only setting yourself up to knock yourself down. Don't get me wrong, everything you want is possible. BUT before you start talking about turboing, you have a lot of research to do.
The 3.5 shortstar engine is going to be too much of a hassle to swap in. You're better off either swapping in the LX9 3.5L engine or doing the top swap and mentioned in the other posts. It's cool that you want to do all this stuff, but you have a lot of learning to do and you might find that doing such an extensive build like you planned may not be what you want because of all the hard work and money that is involved. At this stage think small and as you start climbing the ladder thing a little bigger each step. If you think too big and end up with something small, you're only going to end up with disappointment. Best of luck! |

i think this is the kid that got an alero at like 13. start small man, then work your way up
|
well he just needs to start out with the simple mods and the ones that do not cost much. Then build from there. I like his motivation but he has a lot to learn.
|
Best place to start would probably be to buy my OSV kit....
|
Looking back, Id go this route:
1) Springs and Struts 2) Exhaust. Honestly the biggest diffence I noticed with my 3400 was the header install. 3) Upgrade Trans Mount. Ive had many people say this one is not necessary, I stand firm on doing this one. DO IT! Milzy makes one that is the cat's ass imo. Have one on both my GA's and put one in my brother-in-laws before I tuned it. 4) Tune it Stay away form the heavy modding unless you have no life and would like to disapear into "engine world" for the next 10 years... hahahahaha If you just got your ticket to ride dude, enjoy the ride for a few years then get serious if you like. Serious builds equate to a lot of down time to most people that dont shit money if you catch my drift |
Shrug, sometimes big plans happen. I started my Park Ave when I was 17 and look at it now.. (21).
Shoot, it was bagged when I was 18 only. A modded car in high school is do-able... you just need to be willing to not buy things like movies/video games/ going out to eat/etc. And having full coverage and getting a hit n run really boosts the finances  |
