another boosted 3400 thread
Picked up the new toys yesterday:
![]() She needs some new thrust bearings, figured might as well start a thread. It appears the only place to get the bearings is here: http://www.superchargerrebuild.com/?page_id=6 Should i get the rebuild kit with mechanical seals or ptfe/viton seals? |
Good luck with the rebuild! Man I miss my boost!!!
|
I emailed and this is what i got back:

Where you get that swag @ homie?
|
Contact the guys at 928motorsports.com They have anything you need to rebuild any part of your charger man.... they are freakin' awesome to deal with. That's who hooked me up
|

Never......again...... |
Quote:
I did, the girl on the phone told me they only sell the parts for a v1 or a v2... |
Something wrong there dude. They told me to contact them for anything I needed. I got my seal and bearing from them!
|
Hmm ill call them again and see what happens.
So in theory is there any possible way to dial in the tune with a supercharger so good that you get better fuel economy? or is it always going to be worse no matter what because of the pulley and everything sucking down power? |
Quote:
Only as far as it is possible to increase mileage over stock on a tune without the SC. In other words, tune it for better mileage while it is stock first. The SC will then decrease mileage when installed, but you may get a net gain. Not likely, though. |
If it was a turbo could it be done? Im just thinking all these new little boosted eco shitboxes getting 30+mpg with turbos and whatnot, does boost allow you to get more energy per fuel molecurle or something?
|
Quote:
Nope, just more (air + fuel) per unit of time |
Can i use this for the oil feed & return??
Quote:
|
^someone has done their homework.

Its just unclear whether or not it will work properly.... if the set screws he is talking about function as an inlet and outlet it should create a loop that would feed and return the oil correct? The way im imaginining it it would be the same plumbing as if you were using a sandwich adapter for an oil cooler, except instead of an oil cooler its a supercharger... |
Quote:
your talking to a noob when it comes this in depth  I leave things like that for people like chris (C2) to take care of. |
Why would you return oil to the filter your taking it from... Just return to the oil pan and get a sandwich plate and feed from it.. People have been doing it for years and theres a reason for that... It works better than anything else.
But ive been on the road all day so maybe I read your question wrong |
Quote:
Because im trying to think outside the box and work smarter not harder. There are oil sandwich plates designed to create a loop, as opposed to just adding an accessory fitting. My question is, what happens to the supercharger when the oil is pumped through it like this, instead of just trickled on top and gravity drained from the bottom. This would basically just supply a higher volume of oil than what "people have been doing for years" but is that a good thing or a bad thing? ![]() |
I dont know much about superchargers but with turbos to much oil fives you blowby and can cause coking of the bearing after time
|
I just looked at the inlet on the vortech its really small... the oil wouldn't be able to make it through the supercharger fast enough to not starve the engine of oil... nevermind. Even if the inlet on the super could be drilled out, and even if the additional pressure didnt push oil into the inducer, it probably would still restrict the oil from getting to the engine...
|
Unless your feeding it a garden hose I doubt it would starve the engine
|
Did you get this with your kit? There should be a red hose attached and the long, one way valve should be with it.

I need the 7P375-094 fitting
|
Why isn't the supercharger a sealed oil unit?
|
cooling would be my guess
update with the bearings stuff: called 928 again, she swears up and down that they only service v1 and v2s and they have never touched anything else. just got off the phone with vortech... they refused to give me the dimensions of the bearing i need for the output shaft... only thing he would give me is a three digit number starting with a 7 for a rebuild quote... looks like ill just have to get out the calipers and measure the damn thing myself. About the oil feed fitting... updated part number is 7P375-084... vortech charges 32 bucks for that sucker... they're almost as bad as apple! |
No one can ever be as bad as Apple...
|
Get the air assist, the charger needs it bud. It will seal off when not in boost and then the valve opens to airate the incoming oil and reduce pooling in the bottom of the charger
I don't get it then man about 928?? I think I even have the reciept around here somewhere from me getting my stuff from them! Id try a google search and see what you can find the man. Someone has to be able to help you on it. Couple of years ago there was a guy on e-bay that sold rebuild kits for them too |
Quote:
Supercharger rebuilds has them for 200. I should be able to have the bearings pressed onto the shafts for under 100 bucks right? whats a reasonable price for a shop to put the head unit back together? I have it apart down to the driveshafts i didnt try taking the impeller off yet thats the only thing left on there. |
bearings in and put together should not cost you more than 150 man. I got mine done for 100 bucks from a Pontiac Club sponsor here in Burlington
|

That what i was thinking but i found a local shop who has experience with the v9s and they qouted me "at least 500" Got another email back from a local shop... apparently nobody is interested in making some quick cash for a couple of minutes in front of a press!! |
Thanks to a very generous local machine shop the head unit is now completely stripped down to the bare driveshafts:
![]() Slipping on the new bearings should be a cinch on the lab press at school! For $750 vortech might as well just rebuild my ass |
Do you have the belt for the kit? If you do, whats the part # on it? Mines so dam old I cant see it anymore...lol
|
Nope i still need the belt, and that stupid air assist fitting from vortech
The head unit is all back together, looks mint. Zspecs crappy driveshaft is currently having an extra keyway machined and i should have it back tomorrow. ![]() Im going to the store this week to get the stuff to do the oil drain tap, i need to change my oil so just I'm going to pull the pan and do it. What kind of fitting should i look for? Im also going to need the t tap for the oil feed where the oil pressure sensor is, not sure what I need for that either... |
Sweet!
|
Machine shop pulled the bearings, miked the output shaft which was true to ~.00001 inch (perfect) and now they are upgrading the z spec driveshaft. will update with pictures when i get the shaft back
|
I still cant find a macbine shop in my area to do my bore and milling
|
pics of the upgrades: note how little material is holding the original keyway together on the left... new keyway is on the right.

Car was broken into friday night... unfortunately i lost everything because it was sitting in the back seat ready to go to the shop and get installed...
Heres a list of what is missing... vortech v9 head unit w/ brand new bearings & seals vortech blow off valve 2 complete rsm driveshaft assemblys & spare replacement bearings Gatorback belt Rsm N body transmission mount Rsm W body transmission mount various brass oil fittings & lines 5 quarts mobil 1 Oil filter aem wideband kit overkill pcm Tomtom one 130 gps & suction cup & charger Droid razr maxx car dock & charger Nintendo 64 & mario cart Probably other stuff i havent realized yet. Fortunately they werent too smart because they tried to pry my double din out with a mechanial pencil... and obviously failed... If anyone hears about any of this stuff around, please contact me immediately. Detectives have swabbed the car for prints since i guess the value makes it grand theft? They are on the hunt. |
