I know now that a 6.5 component speaker will fit in our door I got a friend of mine to make the adapaters in the door also ran the cross over in the door panel...

This guy will make them for me for 30$ CDN and depending where you live I will be able to ship them out for a minimal charge cause I work for a shipping company...

I also took lots of pics of the install so could send the pics with the panels.....

Let me know if you are intrested???

what drivers are they? 6.5's do fit..... but there are some that won't because of the depth. That is the only trouble with mass prodoucing 6.5 adapters... some drivers need more spacing than others.

King Asoka 11-29-2003 02:45 PM

ya im interested, put some pics up?

sparky009 11-29-2003 06:19 PM

The speakers are the Infinity 6.5 components and to make the fit we added spacers to the panel so the magnet would fit in

Show some PICS

hubcaps 12-06-2003 01:28 PM

That's exactly what I am looking for. I've got a set of Infinity 6.5", I was planning on making some kick panel but I just don't have the time. Please post up some pics, I am very interested in getting a set. Thanks

boarder211 12-06-2003 05:04 PM

Very interesting...

I just put in a new set of 4x6's last summer because I didn't think a good compnent 6.5 would be possible!

I hate to follow suit, but let's see some pics! :)

sparky009 12-07-2003 01:03 AM

The size of the file for 1 of the pics is to big well it is over the 200k limit for this site if you want I could email the pics to you the pics are 250kb and up so if you have a hotmail that means i can only send you 2 pics at a time and then you will have to save them so i can send you the rest there are a total of 6 pics in all one of the panel beside the old houseing,2 pics of where to put the cross over,a pic of ust the panel installed, one of the panel with the speaker installed and one of the finshed product speaker and panel installed in door....

boarder211 12-07-2003 02:16 AM

Hey man... I could resize them for you and then post. That would be no problem... If you want to do that, e-mail them to me at boarder211@canada.com

boarder211 12-07-2003 01:27 PM

Alright everyone! Here's the resized pics!

boarder211 12-07-2003 01:28 PM

Cross-overs

boarder211 12-07-2003 01:28 PM

Again...

boarder211 12-07-2003 01:29 PM

Does anyone know how to upload multiple pics per post? It would really make life easy...

boarder211 12-07-2003 01:30 PM

But hey! It's upping my post count (There's gotta be a silver lining for everything)

boarder211 12-07-2003 01:31 PM

And finally...

King Asoka 12-07-2003 03:07 PM

so the door panel fits over it nicely? And why mount the crossover on the back of the door panel, why not put it in behind the speaker? and is it 3/4 or 1/2 MDF?

sparky009 12-08-2003 12:57 AM

Yes the door panel fit over nicely because of the pocket in the door panel there was alot of room to spare for this install. the reason the crossover is in the door panel is because behind the speaker mount in the door the window glass is right there so limited space for the crossover.and lastly it is 3/4 mdf. Also what we had to do was make spacers so the panel is not directly on the door what we did was well now this is going to soung getto but took about 6 or 7 washers and glued them together and that gave us the space we needed for the speaker. The tweets that came with the components fit nicely into the old housing all it need was a little hot glue.

Now that should be all the info you will need to transform your factory 4x6 into a 6.5 and to the people that said it could not be done... :P

swimmarz13 12-09-2003 09:39 PM

do you have any plans i can look at...i just got some 6.5 kicker freeair subs and i am planin on puttin them up front to give me a lil advantage over the comp at the spl sound off if you know what i mean, I have an infinity tweeter that i can put a bigger amp on for the highs and i wan more bass up front, what do you all think?

King Asoka 12-09-2003 10:58 PM

sounds like a great idea! I think im gonna do something similar.

sparky009 12-10-2003 07:48 AM

depending on the depth of the speaker it shouldo work cause on our cars the speaker is not flush with the door panel so there ia a little extra room but i suggest is do it and when checking it before putting the panel back on see how muck bass reflex there is on the speaker you don't want the speaker pushing out and onto the door panel...

Nice job! I was looking at the Boston Acoustic component sets for this type of project, but for now I got the 4x6" BA plate components instead- they sound great, at least right now with 45 watts per channel- I don't know how they'll do next month with my Alpine head unit pushing 60 watts through each one!
 :smokin:

more like 22... but yes, the alpine internal amps are bought as good as you will find in a headunit. 6.5's will sound much better than 4x6's in most cases. Round speakers are better, plus the extra surface area gives it a much better lower range.

Oldsman 12-14-2003 05:58 PM

my boston 4x6 plates have handled 90 watts of clean power. and right now they are handling 50 watts each with np.

Johnnyangel 12-14-2003 06:54 PM

Actually, the speakers themselves are round- Plate speakers give you a round woofer with a tweeter mounted separately on the plate itself for a clearer sound.

Johnnyangel 12-31-2003 07:46 PM

Update- I broke down and bought the BA component set, I'm installing tomorrow- BA 4x6 plates are going in GF's 99 alero this weekend! (now maybe she'll shut the hell up about Mr. Wonderful...)

Out of curiousity, does anyone know if I'll be able to jam the new 1" tweeter in the upper door panel where the factory one was? I'd hate to cut up my door panels or my A-Pillars... I guess I'll see tomorrow!

Johnnyangel 01-01-2004 08:23 PM

Damn. Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn! I can't put the BA's in, they'll hit the window channel. I checked the clearance, I'd need another inch to clear them. If I use 1" MDF I get the clearance I need, but they'll hit the door panel. I think I was a little ambitious this time, so I just returned them and bought an LCD screen. :D That's in the little pocket under the A/C controls now with my X-Box behind the passenger seat until I get longer cables. Damn it, I made SOME progress at least!

sparky009 01-05-2004 08:56 PM

Ok when i put my 6.5 in I use 3/4 MDf and also what I di was added some spacers to it well I i did really was take a stack of about 5 or 6 washed and super glued them togather also I sanded the door panel there was a bubble on the inside so i sanded it down t make it fit

I hope this helps dont give up it can be done use the Force Luke...

nnewton123 01-07-2004 02:29 AM

that is the trouble 6.5's.... some will fit ok.... some will take some serious work to get them to fit. Just depends on how they are designed and how much room you need to clear in the front and the back. Take a look at my n-body site and you will see the best way to fit 6.5's. :)

AleroSS 01-07-2004 12:45 PM

anyone considering using alpine components - double check your depths as I have heard multiple problems in trying to squeeze them in being that they are a deep speaker...

nnewton123 01-07-2004 03:06 PM

focal makes a set of 6.5" components in there polyglass line which are advertised as "slim". Those might be a good set to try for those interested in a nice set of speakers that will fit without too much trouble.

99blackalero 01-08-2004 11:56 PM
