Interesting
very interesting....
Looking forward to seeing the result.
Its your car and it will be interesting to see, however I don't know why anybody would ruin a good car by putting that many speakers in the door panel like that...it makes it so it isn't even a functional driver as it would be just plain uncomfortable...but I guess to each their own
Sweeeeet!
You can never have too much car audio.
That's overkill, but we shall see how this goes.

Yes....yes you can. That DEF looks like overkill. How do you plan to reinforce the door panels? Dont speakers need a little area for them to sound good (like subwoofers?). I don't know too much about audio cause i'm more about performance so i'm JW. Not trying to hate on you.....good for you for doing something different but i just wanna know what you have planned. Have you thought it out? I do know speakers need to be in certain positions for them to sound right. Gonna be A LOT of fiberglassing lol.....i don't have the patience for that. lol. You'll be deaf within a few years  |

Woofers/midranges/speakers (whatever you want to call them) need some sort of enclosure in order to produce low frequencies. Otherwise, they sound very "aired out". Likewise, building a large box for normal 6.5 speakers as one would do with subwoofers is about the same as not having anything to enclose the back because the speaker doesn't have any sort of seal. Speakers are a lot easier to enclose though. They don't need much space behind them. That's why door speakers work. The metal around them gives them enough enclosure to be able to produce a low tone without feeling aired out. As far as position, it's all how you look at it. My 94 Cutlass has speakers in the dash, but they're practically non existent as the speaker cone is pointed towards the windshield. If it were angled towards the cabin then my hearing perception would be towards the front and not the back. That's how positioning works. You want to create an allusion that the source of sound is either coming from the front of you, the rear of you, or the side of you. All depends on how you want it. I personally like to feel as I'm in front of the sound rather than listening to it from a background perspective. The OP is obviously building a competition sound system. In this situation, it doesn't matter how it's positioned ergonomically, but rather what matters is how it's positioned to create a louder sound. In his case, he would need to create a backing so his speakers don't lose "pressure" when creating a low tone. The metal frame of the door can provide that, and to some, it can be enough, but depending the op's vision, he may have to create "channels" so the speakers don't sound as if they're chillin in the air. Now I'm not an expert, but I do know enough to create something loud and "bangin". My Grand Am is known to be loud, and I'm taking the Cutlass to the next level, simply for it being a convertible. |

irs been a slight pita taking these auto windows doors and converting them for a window crank
Keep it up
I would have sold those doors and gotten some manual window doors just to save the hassle!! hell a junk yard might have even swapped you straight up simply because they can sell the window regulators and switches...
Nice!! I'm following your progress... you give me some ideas...
Wow i never thought I'd see someone actually want crank windows lol

ive always had manual windows my old panels where just trashed , this is all i could find in multiple junkyard trips |

To be honest when I first saw this thread a couple days ago, I had no idea what direction it would be going in and I thought it was a stupid idea. I'm glad I didn't say anything because I would be sitting here with my foot in my mouth because that's pretty sweet so far.
While this isn't my thing, and I still don't really like them...It looks a lot cleaner than some you posted a picture of at an earlier point, so for cleaning them up some I give you props, however I still don't know how you could ever put that much sound equipment to use and think it messes with functionality...way to be unique though
It's very possible to make it work. I'm excited for this.
Looks like it's coming along well. I'm not into car audio, but this is pretty sweet, I would even like to do something like this with maybe 2 in each door.
I wish I had manual windows.... wait I do its called tape
You need to fix that.
The window regulator and motor is only $50 on ebay. I would do it if I was you... hell I've done it because I had a bottle of spray paint holding my window up from inside the door panel... smh lol
I myself have a stick in mine ;D
I had a stick of wood holding mine up as well until I got a new one from the junkyard.

Lucky you. Every junkyard around me the aleros are stripped down to just the frame hahaha |
Any word on these doors? anxious to see!
test fit
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i put the quick layer of spray paint to make any spots that still need work to stick out more. its hard to see any little imperfections in bondo. |
That's going to look great, what do you have in terms of sub woofers?
Looking good! thats going to be LOUD!
