stupid question but i need help....
on the can of krylon fusion it says it can be applied to plastics and the likes...
but when i applied it to my doors then vinyl parts seem not to dry...
i didnt prime the panels because of what it said on the can...NO PRIMING...
i havent clear coated the panels yet and i have just been waiting for them to dye...
no there is poop all over them because i have been letting them dry for so long...
anyone have any advice for me...

the one problem I ran into when I first started doing this was, either it was too hot or too cold in the room I was painting in. Make sure you have a mild room temperature. Hopefully that helps. I never painted the doors, only plastic, so I'm not sure what to tell you.

the temp seems to be nice...
the "plastic" part of the doors have dried..
but the vinyl part of the doors havent...
im might try to use a wet sponge and get all the poop off of it and then try to use a hair dryer to get it half way dry then use the clear coat on it and try to see if that dries...

I used krylon fusion works great on hard plastics. But i tried it on the center counsel the vinyl armrest and well it doesnt totally dry. It will not come off after awhile but it will be super tacky. Also i tried a clear over it and it seemed to help. it wasnt tacky. But we had some hot days and while it was in the sun all dayit became tacky again. it doenst come off but it is anoying just run the air for awhile and it will be fixed but the back of the can does say only hard vinyls or something like that. Its kinda a BAD idea to use krylon on soft vinyl. Ive learned that the hard way.

im guessing its for plastics only......vinyl is no where near a plastic.

You shoulda done a bit of research before putting plactics paint on soft vinyl..
Check out smlz's alero, she dyed her interior, and in her showcase thread i beleive she goes into detail as far as what she used and such. It turned out very nicely.

Substrates: Most Plastics, PVC, Hard Vinyl, Ceramic, Glass, Tile, Wood, Metal, Wicker and other hard to bond surfaces...

i guess i just saw vinyl on there and figured it would work...
anyway to "fix" this mess...

lol we have soft vinyl if anything, notice how its squishy i na way.

I use SEM etching primer all the time, great stuff for rattle can. They make a good product

I'm not totally sure how/if you can 'fix' your doors.. but you could try a small amount of alcohol or thinner on a cotton ball or a towell you don't like and just lightly go over the parts that aren't dry. It should take off a bit of the paint. Just don't go rubbing like crazy, but if you can get most of the paint off, that will be better to start over with. Once you do that, go get all the vynil dye you need (buying all at once should reduce the chances of getting different dye-lots) and read the entire label before starting. Prep the surface how it says and you should be fine.

SEMS VINYL AND CARPET DYE! .. my old interior dash was done with it. While everything else was rewrapped. Plus robbie's alero dash was dyed with it.

Yup whoever used krylon on door panels vinyl.. now u need new panels. or u could use like 1 milion gallon of lacquir thinner to strip it, but it'll damage the vinyl too.

im just going to get some clear coat on it and go up to college with it on...
damn it...
i might have to see if i can get some cheap door panels for a junk yard up there or something...

any idea of how hard it would be to revinyl the door panels???

around the door rest / window switches are.. impossible to re-vinyl unless u want to cut out excess material and stitch a seem in there. Only fabric that would work without stitch or anything would be tweed cuz its flexible enough to do tight curves.

other than stock heated stretch vinyl from the factory. No aftermarket viny will do that.

great i just put the doors on after clear coating...
still sticker then poop but...
it will have to do for now...
i will be getting new door panels soon i think...

was "drying" in my garage with a dihumidifier for 2 days...
they just arent going to dry...

that crap is horrible. it never dried on my center console. try some goo-gone. it pulled it right off with some elbow grease. and it's natural, so it won't eat the vinyl.

i might try that sometime...
but i dont no how well long it will take me since i am now up at college and dont have anytime to do anything...

^ poor college students need money.. hire someone to do it for you while you're at class, lol. Unless you're a poor college student yourself... then that doesn't make much sense.

I think it'll turn out fine as long as you can get most of the paint off. Good luck when you finally get around to it.
