Is it possible to keep the low beams on when you switch your high beams on?

it's possible, but you'd have to seriously mess some stuff up.

I don't get what the fascination is with having highs and lows on at the same time on our cars. every other car turns off the lows when the highs go on, and vice-versa.

I didn't get it either... at first. Then I saw a post on here, where someone mentioned that if you SLOWLY turn on the highs and hold it at the right spot in between, you can keep both on... so I tried it, and it does improve vision.

You could do that on my old Dodge with its (2) 9004's too... but it didn't offer much difference... on the Alero, with it's 4 bulbs, the difference in projection is much more noticeable!

Don't get me wrong... if I'm on the Garden State Parkway doing 70, it doesn't make much difference, because I'm looking way ahead of the car anyway.

However, if I'm doing say, 35, on a pitch black rural back road with that speed limit, and it is deer season.... I want to see BOTH way ahead of my car, AND ALSO still have that brightly lit area of road directly in front of me. Deer can be a hazard running out anywhere from 1/4 mile to 14 feet in front of you! Why should I sacrifice light directly in front of my car to see further down the road?

My wiring is still stock, but I'm actually thinking of doing a HI = HI + LO myself, but not the way I've seen suggested on here, modifying the cars stock wires. If I do it (and I'm not sure if I want to bother) I will do a setup with relays and a battery hookup, so that I can both: a) simply undo the process by just unplugging it, and also b) I could safely run some eBay harness burners, just for kicks!

the best solution is to get some quality fog lights. I have a GLS so it had the stock fog lights, but they didn't actually illuminate anything. I bought nice aftermarket ones (the whole assembly, not just the bulb) and they are brighter and less focused than my headlights and you can aim them any direction you want. You can shine them in the ditch to watch for deer but don't leave them on in traffic because they are annoying to other drivers.

Yeah that would work............. and it would piss off every driver coming the opposite way.

yeah maybe, but it would piss them off even more if you have brighter highs.... "turn off you highs! these arnt my highs!!" and then flash them, ive seen it done before it was hilarious

if you do opt for aftermarket fogs, which I suggest, and you decide you want to run them with highs, you'll need to wire them up on a different circuit. The factory fog light wires cut power when highs come on. IOW, they only come on with low-beams by safety design. Good luck.

Hey, I've got another solution if you know how to deal with electronics and wiring. Go to a junkyard and get a wiring kit from an early 90's Honda Accord or early 90's Mazda 626. Take it apart and keep the wire harness for the headlights. Then rewire it up in the Alero. It will work if you have the expertise and time to do the work. Good luck!
