how do i remove the rear 6x9 speaker covers to paint do they just pull out or what thanks.

King Asoka 02-18-2004 03:31 PM

no, its all one piece. i geuss you could cut them out and then glue them back. best to just take out the rear deack and tape them off and paint them.

Yes, I know this is an old thread but it pertains to what I want to do. Aftermarket speaker covers came with my rear 6x9s and I would like to replace the stock rear covers for my 2004. Anyone have any experience or how to steps please?

Oh, it is a 2004 4-door sedan. That is the only type of car I am inquiring speaker cover removal for. If it does not apply, please do not post it unless someone else is inquiring.

i think i saw a forum on this before, some cars are one peice and some pop out is what i understood?

mine are riveted in. you'd have to drill out the rivets. but its possible.

way to advertise to people that you have an aftermarket system. i think it looks cleaner with stock covers.

Thank you for your opinion. I am assuming that your comments regarding my advertising are sarcastic? Thanks for posting nothing pertinent to the actual question-the help is greatly appreciated.

Drill the rivets out? I haven't actually taken anything apart. Is there places to bolt the new covers down without doing too much damage? And would they go right over the carpet?

I had a neon and had no clue how to do this lol. Ended up cutting nasty holes in the carpet and wrinkling it trying to get these in.

If the stock grills are bigger, you may actually even need to cut so that the aftermarket grill fits on top without leaving any gap to the sides.

i thought mine weren't gonna come out, but i just stuck a screwdriver under it and pried it out. you have to do it kinda hard to undo the glue, and it sounded like i was breaking things, but it ended up working and going back together just fine.

after market grills wont fit unless ur gunna re-mat the rear deck, i tried and for the stock grills i just pried em out, snapped all the shit but just glue it back up

I looked at mine tonight. These are unique covers. Also note that the speaker grills that coem with speakers are meant to be mounted right to the speaker and into the mounted area. They are not meant to hover 1" over the speaker- which is about what would happen if you used them.

I dont think you want to do that. Simply because of the odd size...
