Mon i hooked up my system, and it sounds great except the trunk rattles, it isn't the whole thing or the spoiler or anything. It is that piece that has "alero" on it. Just wondering if ne one else had this problem, and how to solve it.

Welcome to the club. My car sounds like a rattle trap from the outside when I turn it up. I've been told lining the trunklid with dynomat works well, as does spraying expand-y foam in the space where the light above the license plate is.

Aleromaster 02-19-2004 04:16 PM

Yeah I sprayesd the expanda foam and no more rattle. Careful though if your not careful you'll have a big mess on your hands. If you go that route get the stuff for vinil windows and doors that way it won't warp the plastic. A good thing to do would be to prep the area well first, ie: block any holes that the stuff would come out of. For the key hole I removed the panel then wraped ducktape around it making a tail sitcking uot. I also taped plastic to the back of the entire thing in a way so when I sprayed the stuff in through the drain holes it would fill the area between the plastic and bag so I could remove the panel later if needed. After everything dried I just yanked on the tail for the trunk lock and the tape slides off and out the hole. Sorry if this sounds confusing but I have trouble explaining things when I'm in a rush.

What happends if you dont do nothing. Any harm can be done?

Aleromaster 02-19-2004 04:30 PM

xtcdj 02-19-2004 04:43 PM

so what is the best solution and since I like cleaness.. What do you suggest.

99blackalero 02-19-2004 05:16 PM

do what aleromoaster said..or dismantle your trunk lid and get it from the inside

StealthAlero99 02-20-2004 12:24 PM

aright i ripped that bottem trunk part apart, and i am goin to put some weather stripping between the two pieces, this should work. but i will post to and let you know how it went, also throw some pics in here in case u dunno what i am talking about.

StealthAlero99 02-20-2004 01:16 PM

Ok no more rattle!!!!! i will post pics in a few mins...

StealthAlero99 02-20-2004 02:19 PM

Ok this is the part that was rattling....
the top piece was hitting the bottem piece

StealthAlero99 02-20-2004 02:21 PM

K here is a pic of the pieces with the weather strippin on... when i put the trunk back together the weather strippin didn't stick out this much... but problem solved no more rattle

sound_xtreme 02-20-2004 03:53 PM

hey i invented that fix! lol. im cheap!it'll wear out evertually, especially if you have A LOT of bass.ima just shave my trunk and weld it on. thats the best way haha

Aleromaster 02-20-2004 10:04 PM

yeah I originally went the weatherstripping route and only lasted about 3 months

Green Eyed Monster 02-25-2004 01:40 PM

W  ould clear silicone work?????????????? I was thinking of tring it.......

BLK03GXS 04-03-2004 03:13 PM

Yea it prolly would... allthou it would be gay and lame to take apart after... something non stickey might be better... like the expanda foam, or weatherstriping, or foam...

Green Eyed Monster 04-03-2004 03:41 PM

I was thinking let it dry before you put it together.....

BLK03GXS 04-03-2004 04:44 PM

That could work... would be interesting to try, if you do it let us know how it go's
