Well, I've got a bad noise comming from my front end...I started humming a few days ago, But last night IT started to really act up. When i turn left It makes a clank sound once and awhile...But not always. I was also driving straight last night and it did it. Someone told me it was an axle/cv joints and someone else said it was a wheel bearing. I jacked it up, and removed the tire and it sounds like the sound is comming from the driver side. The axles don't "click" at all. Which makes me lean toward the bearing. Is there a way to tell which one it is?

Ur explaining exactly what happened to my moms car, and it was the wheel bearing..A lil pricey fix tho.

2fst4u 03-19-2006 10:34 PM

yup, it's definately one or the other. lol

i'm just playing.
if your wheel has "play" in it, (you can move it left to right without moving the steering wheel, then it's probably a wheel bearing.

mine did the same thing. it's not hard to replace, so i'd do it myself.

Well, I jacked up the front and tried to move the tire and it didn't move at all. It was very tight. So maybe it is the axle. Is their a way to check the axles?

wheel hub assembly need sreplaced cost ya $110 to do it yourself.

natedawg9640 03-24-2006 01:30 PM

keep you eyes on ebay... i just picked up two hubs from a guy... his alero only had 20k on it when it was trashed... granted they have 20k on them but they're still good and you can't beat the price... 20$ a piece... :yahoo: i dont care if they go out in 15 or 20k... it's still WELL worth the price... and you can change em yourself...

if you want to buy used ones you can look for crashed aleros... grand ams... malibus... and (somebody correct me if i'm wrong) but i thought cavis and sunfires use these bearings too... just make sure you get hubs with ABS sensors if you have ABS....

ptrudel 03-24-2006 01:37 PM

cavi's arent the same as far as i know...

and i know what you mean about ebay, i just picked up 2 bbrand new units shipped for under 200$CAD

Cliff8928 03-27-2006 02:05 AM

the J-Body hubs won't work at all, as far as i know they still use the external ABS sensor with the reluctor on the CV shaft. Not to mention the 5x100 bolt pattern. It'd be more of a chance that W-Body ones would work (though i doubt it).
