I need a new CD player bad. I have been running the stock headunit and it finally crapped out on me. I figured if I'm gonna get a HU I might as well get a flip out. I was looking for a flip out screen with a built in DVD player. I want something that won't cost a grand but won't break in a couple of months either. I was looking at this one Jensen VM9510. Tell me what you guys think or if you have other suggestions.

Anyone?

i personally wouldnt buy a cheap one, cause you always get what you pay for.
its hard to think of things to suggest, because i dont know if you're just trying to go the cheapest route or what? for me i'd be looking for something that mates up good with my interior, etc. i'd rather have something that almost looks stock than some ugly thing that really sticks out. but for under a grand, here are some things i would look at Kenwood DDX-6017 ( DDX6017 ) Kenwood DDX-6019 ( DDX6019 ) Clarion VRX765VD JVC KD-AV7010 Alpine IVA-W200 Kenwood DDX-7017 Kenwood KVT-717DVD Kenwood eXcelon DDX-8017 it all depends if you want single din with a flip out, or a double din, if you want touch screen, etc. check those out, and for good prices check sonicelectronix.com |
jenson is crap...like formula said...you get what you pay for. Get a higher end player and you wont be dissapointed.
|
I'm not really wanting a cheap one but I kinda have to stay along those lines on a college student budget. I do want something that will flow with my interior ( which is blue themed lighting). I don't care if it is touchscreen or not but now that I have looked at some of the others I cant decide if I want a flip out or a double din screen. I am suprised that you said Jensen was crap becuase I have read nothing but good reviews about that one thats why I was considering it.

499 for that one on cardomain

take a good 5 minutes and thing about it. Do you really need a DVD player in your car? yes its cool to have n all but think of it this way. for $200-300 you can get a real nice cd player that can do pretty much whatever you want (except play DVD's). It'll have complete control over your stereo, and provide great quality. OR you can spend an extra 500 bucks on all the same features, with the addition of a flip up screen and can play DVD's. In my mind, its definately not worth it. With the $500 you save you could: buy a new set of rims, or a new set of tires, or a cold air intake, muffler, and a few other perf. mods, or you could buy 4 high end speakers, and an amp, or you could get sum high end subs with a high end amp- ect etc etc. Do what you want, im just tryin to give you a different prospective on things
|
The screen has always been on my list of mods anyway it just got bumped up because my current CD player stopped working. And as far as the other mods go I already have rims w/ new tires, an intake, exhaust, springs, etc. I am working on turning my alero into a show worthy car and even though screens may not be necessary for the car to look good, they are a bonus.
|
well if that's the case, jensen isnt very "show worthy" even if it's got some good reviews, i'm not saying dont buy it, it might be pretty good quality for your budget. i'm just saying i wouldnt buy it.
i want a double din screen, but i would choose a high end HU and eventually get the screen, rather than spend all my money on a lower quality screen i dont really want. |
You should check out nextag.com. That is where I found my pioneer in dash unit. It is a price comparison site so you can find what you are looking for a lesser price. Let me know if this helps ya.

As far as DVD vs no-DVD, I just did a road trip to Kansas City/St. Louis and let me just say that without being able to watch movies I would've gone nuts... music is cool and all, but 20 hours is a lot of driving, and it was a godsend to be able to hit the interstate, slap on cruise control and watch something - TV series work awesome too by the way!

i'm sorry but anyone watching movies while driving should die.

he might just be better off with a custom carputer setup
|
Well first off I definately won't be watching movies and driving. I did think about the carputer idea for a while but had no idea where to look for parts for one. I would have no problem building it.
|
Well yes - it's not nearly as dangerous as one might think, especially with a passenger that can keep an eye on the road as well - I'm talking 2 in the morning, Indian Nation Turnpike, not another car in sight... chill people; I know better than to have my eyes glued to a screen while in traffic or something.
~vR As far as the carputer: http://mp3car.com/ |
as for the carputer, if you have a knowledge of computers, it's pretty cake.
you need a small motherboard (mini-itx, nano-itx, etc) or a normal motherboard if you want to mount it in the trunk or something, some of the smaller ones can be mounted under a seat... etc. you'll also need a 12volt powersupply with auto shutdown on key off, and other typical pc components, as for the screen there are a few choices and i think most people use the liliput www.mini-itx.com www.mp3car.com www.carputers.org www.gotfrogs.com/carpc.htm some companies sell the pc for your car, but it's cheaper to build your own... |
[attachmentid=10311][attachmentid=10311]if you go to http://www.cardomain.com/item/PIOAVHP5700DVD there will be a 7.5 inch in-dash lcd moniter. this thing is pimp, it has a touch screen, Built-In DVD / CD / MP3 / WMA Player, and it is ipod adapter ready. it costs 799.95 but trust me you get what your moneys worth.and it has this cool thing that is the size of about half a finger that pops on and off, and if it is off, then nobody can take it out or turnin it on.

Why not just get the AVIC?
|
I ordered my in dash today. I ended up going with the Clarion VRX765VD. Should be here in a few days. I now have another question. Where should I get the install kit and wiring harness?
