which is best for interior lighting? cathodes, led's, or neons.. im thinkin about gettin these 4 inch cathodes for my floorboards.. one on each side.. from Oznium.com ..
any suggestions? should i go another route? anyone know how to wire them up? |
led's are easy to hide, but hard to wire.
cathodes are bright, but brittle, easy to wire. neons aren't as bright, lightly less brittle (plastic ones, not glass) and easy to wire. |
LED's hands down and better and brighter then neons and cathodes.
http://www.oznium.com hands down the best LED's ive ever used! |
if you figure everything in, time, price, skill needed to install, i'd choose cathodes.
i prefer LED though. |
i just finished wiring up a bunch of LED's under my dash and my seats and they look damn good.
LED's takes alot of time and patients. cathodes and neons and simple mount and hook up to switch. does not take time but they can be very pricey and thats where LED's benefit more, can get them for like $0.35 a peice. i was able to do my entire car for like $45.00 (all tools and stuff included) |
i gotta learn how to wire up LED's...
|
dude, have cherry walk ya through it, i looked at it and went "sweet mother of god, i aint gonna be able to do that crap!!"
talked with cherry and had them in within 2 weeks |
sweet..me and cherry like to get off topic lots tho lol...we cant keep a convo goin for very long
|
hopefully cherry can walk me through it as well..... he's gonna have a line of people now

he could probly do it in the chatroom if we didnt get off topic too much |
i think he should..... then i could print it real quick
|
what if he just posted instructions
|
it varys depending on what you are wanting to do.
he said he will be making a quick guide for making them. its really not that hard, if you can handle using a soldering iron then your already half way there. |
i can use a soldering iron, but i never used it for soldering
|
45 bucks? it would have been cheaper to use cathodes in the large areas. check the prices on oznium, a pair of 12 inch tubes are 7 bux.
as far as leds, it's simple. either put three leds in series, connecting the short leg to the long leg, or use a resistor in series with each individual led. not sure what the problem is |

not everybody has time to look into LED's until its crunch time...and i'm sure there's more to it then just that |

ive used cathodes b4 and i cant belive how brittle they are. ill only use something like that on my computer but not my car. plus, LED's are way brighter IMO, plus, most of the $45.00 was towards wires, soldering iron, solder, wire clippers, aquatic tubes. i have all of that now so if i were to do it again, it would only cost me the price of LED's alone. IMO, much more effective than anything!! |
also, what ya can do with LEDs if you do it yourself is do what cherry and me did, use multiple colors. adds to the effect much more! realyl cool once you get it working
|
i have all neon in my car, just cuz i have a deal with streetglow, but all the blue is the same brightness and tint
|
what kinda of a deal do you have with streetglow?
i love streeglow, hell of a nice company will a crap lod of stuff i would kill to have but shes a little pricey for me ^_^ |
