How to take rear speaker covers out?

I was wondering if there was a how-to on how to get the rear speaker covers off? I also want to lay down some new carpet back there.....

any help would be great :) thanks

you're going to have to take the whole back deck off, its all connected....so you're going to have to take out the seats and all that plastic shit in the back to get to the deck

^^ take out the seats??? No, you don't have to take the seats out, just fold them down. And then there's a few plastic plugs to pull off and a plastic trim piece behind the seats. Then the C-pillars and then the deck pops out. You can take the speaker covers out of the deck if you want to take a cutting tool to them, but you can take them out. Have fun :)

I just painted the speaker covers on mine and recovered the carpet with fabric. You just have to do some careful tucking under the speaker covers if you don't want to mess with actually taking them out of the deck.

for 2 doors you have to take out the seat to get the rear deck off

for 4 doors you just fold down the seats, pull the plugs and take off the C-pillars
and the deck will slide off

speaker covers come off with a small tug. they just pop in place

battistoni21 07-27-2006 01:32 PM

FartCannonAlero 07-28-2006 02:09 AM

That's how I did mine. It would look a lot better had I bothered to take the covers off.

um..... then they are broken? The covers are fused to the deck at the support posts. Sort of like being molded in as Redog said.

Yep, I'd do it different if I did it again. You live you learn.

Mine had tabs on them that needed to be pushed in order to remove them, that and they were glued to the carpeting on the rear deck.. a little bit of force (or alot) will get them off.. i pried them off after about 15 minutes of looking for tabs and crap to undo them.. :p

fold your seats down, pop the littls carpet things out and swing them down( the ones that sit closet to the seats on either side). pull the plugs out of the plastic piece that sits in front of the rear deck and then pull the rear deck through the seat belt slots.(mine is and 01 2dr i don't know about a 4dr but it should be similar)
