Lowering

I am thinking of getting my car lowered with the money i've earned this summer.. in order to lower it.. what all do i need, i know i need the lowering springs.. but what about shocks and struts? Do i need those too?

thanks, Larry

great, thanks.

another thing i was wondering is if i am tuckin 18" chrome rims then how low should i go

At long as you plus size correctly, you'll be fine. 225/40/18 is the size you'll want to get.

How low do you want to go? Eibach go 1 inch and Intrax go 2.

I went with the Eibach. any lower around here isn't a good idea

I got sprint springs and its about a lil more than 2 inchs lower, I like it but if u got old struts and tie rods then u should consider replacing them before lowering

I have the Sprint Springs too, and I love them... the ride isn't hard either... all I did was just put in the springs... i left the original struts in...

you wont be tuckin anything with lowering springs.

you might need to replace your strut bearing plates. Most people don't need to, but if they are in bad shape lowering the car will rip them up. Your car will make groaning and cracking sounds whenever you turn the steering wheel. It will cost you alot in the end if you install the springs and then have to go back and install new plates. If you do it yourself you can easily save a bunch of cash.

mine is doing that now, i wish i would have replaced them when i lowered. I would say if your car has more than 65,000 on it replace those otherwise they will be toast within a year.

They actually settle at just about 2". That's as low as you can go on an Alero with lowering springs. Only air bags or building your own coilovers will drop you any lower. Then again, you could always cut your springs......

you dont have to build your own. mantapart sells em, but at $1500 for a set you might as well go for air.

From what I hear, when you order from Mantapart, you'd might as well build your own because you'll be done and driving on them by the time they get delivered to you.
