Removed Door Trim (befor and afters)
Well the latest modd was a spirt of the moment thing yesterday. Just decided I didnt want the Door Trim on there any longer.
Used a heat gun on low and just peeled right off of course... The more pain staking task was removing the adheasive crap afterwards. Then Using Goo Gone to get the small stuff off. Fresh waxing of there area and there we have it: Pictures: Befor ![]() And After MUCH better. ![]() |
Oh and lets play a game of "Name that car" in the reflection :) shes my other baby....
|
I think it looks nicer without that...flows reall good.
|
looks to me like a 74 Nova SS
|
i didnt even have to use a heat gun when i took mine oh so long ago. a june north carolina day was all it took to make it ppel off easy. i wish my car was a darker color like black cause if you look close you can see the color difference and there is some dirt that is sunburned in so to speak.

i freakin hate black.... its impossible to keep clean and its not exactly great for having a fiberglass body kit which shows cracks... its gettin repainted and the body kits gettin some modding to stiffen it up some. Im also thinking about shaving that bodyline all together but not sure yet i kinda like it there. And Double0 is a winner Good call on the 1974 but its not an SS just a custom. Its got a 350 bored .60, bigger cam and carb spacer. Didnt wanna take it to far from stock. posi rear and a rebuilt tranny with a shift kit and 2500 RPM B&M Stall. It hauls pretty good needless to say. No tracks around here so ive never "legally" raced it. But its all restored to factory pretty much besides the engine and tranny/rear end mods |
looks nice man..... all you did was use a heat gun to her?
jackal, you think this is a good idea for me? i have a silver ho too....... |
hmmmm.... I might just do that on my car too!
|
I did it on mine. The factory tape is easy peasy to get off without heat even. Too bad my mom got it in an accident a month after we got it and the door panels on one side were replaced and the idiots who put it on used some tape that leaves sticky residue on it even with heat and all. I think I'll pick up some goo gone next time I'm up around a Walmart or something.
Looks good though, Alerwhoa! |
i did the same to my car, i never did understand the point in the trim piece...
as for the NOVAcaine...been there, done that...same shade of blue as well...dupmed better gears in the rear though(3.73), and went with a used set of dirt track heads from world products, and a nice lunati cam w/ a 650 edelbrock on a torker II....was good for 13's that was the name of my car..lol NOVAcaine |
i think the reason for it is when you park in a parking lot..like at a mall or anything and some dumbass tries opening their car door all the way and hits your door. if you look at it from the side that piece sticks out the farthest (Preventing scratched paint and not very expensive to replace)
|
It doesn't work... lol
|
^ exactly its pointless on the car and looks way better with it off.
Oh and the lines you see in the after pic.. i didnt clean it enough in that area yet.. its not in the paint its actually a small ridge or high spot. I got it off today. |
FYI
those are called body side moldings, when you say door trim i thought you removed the door trim panel you know the big thing on the inside of the door |
there is a point to them....... if somone opens there car door into your car it hits the molding rather than the paint....
|
i can say from numerous personal experiences that they don't really do a damn thing...
|
^ exactly they dont work.... I know the purpose of them im not retarded the car looks alot cleaner without them. Matter fact I dont think they work on any car... Except my Nova cause they are actually mounted up high enough and also on the highest point of the body curve... rather than IN a body curve like our Alero's
|
yeah that is pretty retarded how they are IN a curve
|
You should see my car, up on the highest point near the top of my doors, there are NUMEROUS dents on both sides. Probably from when my mom had the car, she had to park in a lot, and effin retards in Albany probably hit the car all the time.
|
i didnt know it could be taken off! pretty cool would a hair dryer work in place of the heat gun.
