Resonator Question

So when i get my exhaust i want to take off my resonator. First question....is it hard??? cause me and my step dad will be doing the install, he knows how to install exhausts, but i dont think he has taken the resonator off his truck. Just wondering cause people say its very restrictive and i want to get all that i can out of my exhaust.

I searched and found out its after the cat, so what do i need to do to get it out?

Thanks guys

Oh and the guys on GAGT.com had a link to this site that you can buy paint to paint your exhaust pipes with if they arent coated. Like the exhaust im getting.....my question is, should i get it???? i mean im worried about rust.....do u think my exhaust pipes will get holes in them from rust??? remember i live in NY where they like to throw SH*T loads of salt on the roads!!!

Theres the site to the coating........ should i get it or will everything be ok???? i dont wanna have the exhaust rust out on me and have my money go down the drain!

First off, settle down Beavis, Posting 3 times, before anybody else can answer is a bit much.

The res should just cut right out. If your step-pop knows exhaust, he'll know to use a torch and just cut that shit out.

All the res does on an Alero is give it a little sound. Not to restrivce, it's a staight pipe with baffles in it

i think your monza exhaust comes with a resonator. you might need some pipe to replace it with.

Redog, i posted 3 times in a row cause the third post i found the link, lol

and i really hope the exhaust doesnt come with a resonator!lol If i keep the resonator in, will it still be loud?? and sound good?lol

the cat back system will replace the resonator. I saw that paint on stuff, it looks cool, i would do it.

the edit button is your friend

alerored04 11-08-2006 05:21 PM

haha jackal, whoops. yeah, but it is a new resonator so technically it is replaced.

billytheman1188 11-08-2006 05:40 PM

Yea i forget about the edit button sometimeslol

So there isnt gonna be a big difference if the resonator is in or out right?

jackal2000 11-08-2006 05:44 PM

my understanding of the resonator is that it removes the higher pitch exhaust tones/raspiness.

billytheman1188 11-08-2006 05:47 PM

o ok, i dont need to sound like a honda;)

jackal2000 11-08-2006 05:49 PM

too bad that pic isnt the exhaust you will be getting. there is no resonator after all. just wanted to clear that up for consistency's sake between here and gagt.com

billytheman1188 11-08-2006 05:51 PM
