Brake Caliper painting

Alright i just gota few questions i wanna ask and hopefully someone could answer them, i didnt't really find and thing helpful in some of the other threads. I bought this brake caliper paint today by Plasti-Kote and i was wondering what i needed to buy if anything to clean my calipers before painting? also how do i take them off so i cant paint them and are there any parts on it that i shouldnt paint over? thanks.

when i somewhat prepped my calipers for paint (never did get around to it) i just cleaned them using the brake cleaner that is in a spray can.

i use brake cleaner, as well as a wire brush bit on a drill. gotta get them looking like new before you paint.

i'd also suggest clear coating the crap outta them when your done. i did like 5 coats of paint and 8 coats of clear coat. its been a full year and they are still flawless.

Yea i got a caliper "paint kit" it came with a little can of paint and a can of spray that cleans the dirt off the calipers. Make sure you clean them before you paint them, and clean them good, dont do a half assed job;)(im not saying you will, but im just making sure)

Wire brush and knock off all the crap and brake dust first

alright so are there screws or something on the calipers thati need to remove to get them off the rotor?

cherrington17 11-08-2006 06:57 PM

you don't necessarily need to get them off the rotor. i didn't. i just turned the wheel out and tossed a plastic bag around the rotor. some people have taken them off, but its not required.

just paint everything. It will be ok. use some brake cleaner first too.
