Venom Performance module?
Has anyone tried out the Venom 400 for aleros?
http://www.performancecenter.com/pro...001/Alero/3.4L I'll be keeping my car NA and will probably only put between $950-$1200 into it, but since it is my only car I really like the idea that you can turn it off and still get original MPG. What do you guys think? |
25% increase in torque and hp
*laughs* |
scam.
|
If you are only putting in that much money and are looking for performance, I'd say do an intake/exhaust setup and lower it. Anyways those 'chips' just do some bullshit to the throttle so when you put the pedal down it reaches wide open throttle sooner. It doesn't do anything to the engine itself.
|
Don't waste your money. You can do a lot for $300 but $300 will not get you a 25% gain
|
So.... what about getting a performance ecu instead? and if so, who makes good ones?
Or should I just say screw the ecu and just work changing out the full exhaust? |
*sigh* If it's too good to be true, it is. This gimmick is old - I'm surprised everyone doesn't instantly dismiss it by now.
I'd go with exhaust.. |
^^ I agree.
You can go with a DHP PCM version 1.0 but without a few engine mods, it's not really going to help you too much. Start with exhaust and/or an intake |
I'm more than likely going to get a custom headers back exhaust after a move anyways...
has anyone used HPTuners VCM suite though? I'm really liking the fact that I could change practically everything about my cars power with it :rolleyes2: Money isn't ging to be much of an issue with me for awhile :scpimp: |
hptuners software is nice but if you don't know what you are doing you can mess some stuff up........

I looked at the help file on their site... looks pretty simple to me... mostly just reading the tables and doing minor changes... changing how hard the tranny shifts, gear ratios and such, but after reading the help file in the program I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard.... and even if I do eff something up... like the car won't start I could always just re-introduce the original computer specs to it |
depends on how extreme you want to go...i have honestly thought about dumping it for a complete stand alone........
|
exhaust and intake is a good idea.. u will gain no more than 15 hp with a whole setup headers and back.. but should notice a slight difference with even that and ur ride will run a little better. No way to get 25% increase unless u turbo or supercharge ur ride.. Best thing u can do for under 500 is exhaust + intake IMO.. This way u get sound + performance.
|
where do u guys go that its only gonna cost u under 500 for exhaust? here i was quoted at 650 for a full new exhaust system, headers obviously not included.
|
^because u made the mistake of going to a shop instead of ordering online, buy the exhaust online and have a shop install, shouldnt cost more than $100 for an exhaust install i wouldnt think.

If he does a exhaust including a header he will definately get 15+ hp. Both headers (TOGs no longer available) have dynoed 15+ horsepower by themselves not even counting a full exhaust system at the same time oh and for under $500 you could increase 25% with nitrous.....:scpimp: |

xD yeah, I don't wanna jack up my insurance cost too though  |
yeah nitrous lol. honestly, u may be right about the headers, but i have hardly seen that much gain on other cars with just a header upgrade.
anyways, if u r willing to spend a little money here is what i suggest u invest in for after market parts that will gain u the most hp without having the price and high maintenance of a turbo or supercharged car and is alot more simple of a concept to those who are new to the subject. Cold air intake, headers, throttle body, high-flow cat, resonator, muffler, and new piping. Have it all installed. Remap the ecu for any piping changes to fine tune to the flow and what not. IMO, this gives u remarkable gains even though it is not a turbo. but that might be overkill for ur budget (especially remapping the ECU) so im not sure. those are ur options i guess, let the professionals tell u though, because i haven't been here that long :) |
i really don't think you know what you're talking about with our cars nhartwell. no ecu "remapping" is needed for simple bolt on intake and exhaust.
|
why wouldnt u do a remap with all those upgrades?
