Help me decide
So BestBuy fried my amp while installing a CD player and refuses to take responsibility, great excuse to get a new system huh? Anyway I have an alpine CDA-9856 deck, pioneer 2-way 4x6s up front, pioneer 3-way 6x9s outback, Kole audio (made by Power Acoustic) 980w amp (500rms ish) and a 12" Dub Audio sub 800w (500rms) in a sealed box. Now this sounded alright before the amp blew but my friend has a 10" type E in a sealed box with a fosgate 300w amp in his Sonoma that is loud as hell. Obviously the brand makes a difference, so what should I get that would sound good for less than $300? I would prefer a single sub and an amp but am open to any suggestions. Also are the 10" kickers any good, I have one somewhere but don't have it in a box so I never really could tell how loud it was?

I've got 2 10" kickers in a ported box in my car and they can be very loud if I want to.
|
What size amp do you have? Can I make a ported box or is there precise calculations to go with them ? Sorry, but I don't know shit about this stuff.

My amp is a ZX300.1 amp rated at 300 amps. I think that's what I have. I'll have to check my car this weekend. I bought as part of the Kicker Basspack. Basically amp and 2 10" subs with enclosure for one price. It was a great deal and they are loud and very responsive.

how could they fry an amp by installing a cd player?

x3 its just not feasible... The weakest link in your system is the amplifier. Ditch that thing and grab a half decent amp... You wont regret it. Then look into a ported box. And yes, a ported box is just slapped together with a hole in it. It takes some calculation. I can hook you up with a design for them dubs. I was working on a box for 4 12's for a dude down in Florida- Tech Sys. Anyhow, I would start with that amp. Put that $300 to good use/start. |
I'm not sure they said the sub wasn't hitting very hard so they turned it up and it worked for about 20 minutes after I left and now its stuck in a protection mode. What's a decent one ?

Hello people! ???
If they are dumbasses.. its easy to fry an amp..
And were talking about kids working at best buy installing this stuff.. with zero qualification.. but anyways.. if you aretalking about monsoon amps.. They are effed to begin with.. Bi amped.. 2 and 4 ohm... At two ohms.. ANY aftermarket HU would fry the effer in the first bass hit.. 2 ohms is nearing the electrical quality of a short circuit.. The power transistors in the monsoon are not rated for that much excess in power.. therefore.. turns to heat.. and so on.. |
My aftermarket head unit is going through the amp which is powering the speakers. No problems whatsoever, mind you I did the install myself. Don't know though. The sub has its own amp and that's how I like it.

No not the Monsoon amp, if I had one of those I would have ripped it out when I installed new speakers
