I had an extra broken headlight so I decided to practice on clearing....
 Oh man, whatta PITA!!!! lol!! I got everthing apart, but it was a biotch and getting all that old silicone outta the grooves and whatnot....jesus...thats a job. At least I know how they come apart now, so I can do the ones on my car next. I'm not looking forward to it tho...soo, anyone wanna come out and do them for me?? I'll pay CA$H and supply all the tools and all the beer you can drink! :) |
You sure you want someone drinking all the beer thay want while there working on sometihng somewhat fagile on your car

"limit 3 beers while working, when job is complete... no limit" :P |
I watched silent do a set once, theres no need to remove any of the stuff from the grooves if they come apart decently.
|
I also found that putting it in the freezer works great at removing the sealent, espesially on the lens part
|
:huh?: :huh?: :huh?: PITA? This was the first mod i did to my Alero and only took 30 minutes per assembly. A little messy, but definitely not the hardest mod.

I think the hardest part about it is actually taking the assembly off the car...
I haven't done it yet because I want to have a whole warm day so I can paint the bezel, clear the corners and put in new bulbs all in one shot. less wear and tear that way, I guess. So I'm waiting for the hotter days of summer. |
No, getting the assembly off the car takes 2seconds. Thats the easy part
I guess too me its a PITA cause I went very slow to be sure I didnt snap any plastic or melt anything. Its a mod that I want to look clean and right.... |
I'm going to the junkyard tomorrow to see if they have any Alero's. I don't want to ruin the headlights on the car and not be able to drive it until I have another set. I'll just do the set I get from the junkyard.
|
me saying "taking the assemly off is the hardest part" = mod is super frickin easy and "PITA" shouldn't be in the same thread as "I cleared my corners today"
|
Yeah doing these is a bit difficult. I bought extra headlight on eBay just in case I screwed them up or if they get damaged or stolen
|
Buying replacements?  Guys, this mod isn't worth all of this. The only way you could ruin your lights is if you go thru all the work of clearing them, then run over them with your car.

Yea, for the guys that have done 8 sets....its a peice of cake. For guys like me doin it the first time...it can be screwed up. Im glad I had an extra light to practice on...now I know exactly what to expect and some short cuts. I just made this thread cuz it was more of a pain than I expected. One of those things where I could do it myself but would almost rather pay someone else to do it. |
dood if you still need help, let me know. i'll give ya a hand.
|
i cleared my corners a couple of weeks ago.. it took me about 4 hours for both lights... i used a hair dryer, pocket knife, large and small utility knife, large and small flat-head screwdriver, alot of patience and a steady hand... the only chance of you breakin' something is when it comes to prying them apart... this mod is easy, it only takes time and common sense.... yeah common sense, don't drop anything!!!!!!
|
^^Geez, you had all that? I'm surprised you didnt build a nuclear bomb afterwards. J/K
|
i'm just suprised i got all that sh#t back together right

Took me 6 hours to do the passenger side. Still have to do the driver side. Its been about 6 weeks since I did the passenger side (yess it looks geto but to help it out I also have pinstiping on the passenger side but not on the driver side so it evens out  ). I get condensation in the passenger one only when I go to the car wash. So i figured since I have to take it back apart I figured i'de ask this ?, How would it look with the bezel part painted red to match the car? Anyone done this yet? If so could you post a pic? Thanks, i'll shut up now.
