alero piece rattling when subs on
Hello when i have loud music with alot of bass playing the whole piece where it says alero shakes like crazy. Where the light it you can actually sort of pull that section forward a little. I was wondering if anyone had any advice to get that to stop shaking besides using dynomat. thanks
A lot of times it isn't that piece ... it is probably the license plate that is rattling. Too solve that you can cut a strip of foam and attach it to the back bottom of the plate.
thats what i thought at first but when i hold that piece down it stops rattling.
I took the piece off, and yes, used dynomat and it stopped..ive also heard of people spraying foam back there and it stopped....dont know where to get the foam though.
a few more questions so that is normal to be able to move that much. Also how do i take that off?
I have EXACTLY the same problem, im afraid that bar is gonna brake off, and same I want to save money and find an alternate route instead of dynomating
You need to pop the trunk and you will see the nuts in there holding it on...you're going to remove the whole plate area...you'll see the lines and just follow them around inside the trunk removing the nuts and you'll be good....yes, it'll move that much...
ok thanks so much, if the piece sort of comes out wont the dynomat get all wet if it rains. also does anyone have any pictures of what bolts to take out?
dynomat can get wet...its rubber or a similar substance...its not going to hurt...and the dynomat will hold that piece tight..therefore it won't rattle and it wont move
ok thanks. do you know of a cheap place to get it at?
this was covered by me AGES ago. i used a piece of weather stripping right where the 2 panels meet. cheap and worked effin great
I just sprayed the expanding foam behind that bar piece, worked, and was under 10 bucks. I don't plan on ever taking that peice off again anyway
the bert and cheapest way is the foam 3 bucks at walmart u can do u r whole lid i did and no rattles except 4 exhaust
I just got to say thats great that you realize the rattling noise and want to do something about it.I hate when you see some goof with a decent car and stereo thumping his music and all you here is the rattling from his license plate and trunk,it just makes him look even more like an idiot especially when hes acting all hardcore.LOL
I couldn't get the weatherstrip to stay in place, when I did it like that. I used a piece if wire loom across the top of the center trim piece.

Is there an ernie and expensive way? |
I didnt read all the posts, so if i say something that someone said already, sorry:lol:
I had the same problem, i went to a local place, bought some dynamat, put about 3 layers of dynamat right behind where it says "alero", and it stopped. i just took out the bulb that was there to light the licence plate up and i tried to clean behind there before i put the dynamat in. Make sure you clean the surface good, and make sure its dry, then just put it back there and press down on it hard, make sure its in there, then just put the bulb back in. But after i took the bulb out, i guess it went out, so when i went to get an inspection done, they saw it was out, and charged me $15-$20 for a new bulb:lol: that sucked, haha |
what kinda foam is the stuff your talking about? can I spray my whole trunk lid with it and it'll do the same thing as dynomat?

x2 And, if anyone has any pictures of this done, it would be appreciated, that way I know exactly where to put the foam or weather stripping. I would hate to put foam in places that don't need it and it look horrible. Thanks. |
it's the expanding foam. it's messy and nasty shit. the weather stripping goes between the 2 panels, so you have to take the liscense plate panel off and apply the weather stripping to the metal panel where it rubs, on my car it was so bad it had wore the paint right off the metal part of the trunk.
