paint pulled off... F**K!!!
today a decided to take the door dinger molding thing off of my car. on the drivers door, the front was pulled away so i simply pulled it off. easy, just have to take glue off. i get to the rear quarter and i started pulling away at it with a flat screwdriver and a folded up rag. (not to damage paint) with a little force it came off, BUT it took chunks of paint off and now i'm ready to cry. the tape on the moulding was new (october) because they took it off to fix the back of my car. shouldn't the moulding just come off and not take off paint or could i have a shitty paint job or something. any positive comments would help because i am unbelievably pissed off because i love my car so much. i was also thinking instead of just getting that fixed i also have small scraches and nicks and have to paint the inside bottom of my door, hood chips, scraches on bumper etc, i would save up because i will be working a full time and part time this summer after school, and get the whole car repainted with a body kit. plus i also have brake resedue stuck all the way down my driver side. it's orange in color and feels rough like my car is dirty. it does come off but only if you scrach it with your nail. i think i wore my pads down a bit to much. anybody have that problem or know how to get the shit off? anyway i'm pissed and might redo the paint late this summer.

you were supposed to heat it up first to make the glue soft, then use fishing line to get it started and peel if off while the glue is hot, if you do it another way your asking for trouble
|
my buddy said that paint should never come off that easy. he said he has done it lots and that should never happen.
|
well blame your buddy and tell him you want him to pay for it? lol
|
i asked him after i pulled it off.
|
that sucks man! i was thinking of taking off the moldings too but after hearing that i might just leave it, or i might use the fishing line technique.
|
^just heat them up with a hair dryer first and BAM off.
|
thanks, but does anyone know how to get the brake shit off my paint? it feels like dirt but doesn't come off easy. i was thinking of warm water and a plastic blade. i might just take it to the autobody shop and see what they say.

i just ripped mine off when i started re-doing that side of my car... mine didn't take the paint off... but i cut the tape and it stretched... not i have massive chinks of tape on the side of my car

i just examend the damage and by the looks of it it was a shity paint job. in a few small places, the paint has caugh air behind it and you can see a layer that was missed or something it's hard to explain. i'm going to see if my autobody shop did anything to that part of the vehicle and if not, get a quote on painting the whole car and fixing all the little dings and a little missing paint.
natedawg you might want to re-read what you just posted, some people might find a certain word offensive... what is suppose to be chunks |

sounds good, thanks man |
yup.. bad prep work on the paint job. its the prep work that makes the paint stick. .. so bad prep work = bad paint job. Now you need to watch whereever they repainted the car for those spots to flake off later slowly.

I agree with grim I would say use 3M adhesive remover but Green said his paint is peeling and that might be too harsh on it. |
ya i got mine started and just tore it off. it took some clear coat with it, but thats it. dint matter since i was shavin the handles anyways
