doing my brakes but stuck
 

i suprisingly have never done brakes before. i'm having trouble pushing the pistion back in on the caliper. how do you do that? can i do them without bleeding them? will this affect the ABS? i read on yahoo answers that you need a scanner to close the valve in the ABS or something. can some one help quick because it 12:30am and i want to drive my car tonight. i also don't have a C-clamp. i was told to use that but i don't have one.

you need to use a clamp or a giant pair of pliers to push the piston back in. you wont be able to get the new pads on without doing that. you dont need to bleed them unless you open the bleeders screws.

Or you can use the right tool for the job (there's plenty of other kinds too)...



No pliers are going to touch my red powder coated calipers.

Or just use a larrge C clamp like everyone else in the world.

Since you don't have a C clamp, here's what you do.

DISCLAIMER: Not the safest way, but it works. You get hurt, not my fault you ain't got the right tools.

Take the caliper out of the bracket and put the OLD brake pads in, the steel sides out. Use a BFS (big freaking screwdriver) or some other prying option and pry the pot back in. It's going to take some muscle, but it can be done. That's why I got me a C clamp. :P

Oh, PS, I've never done anything but take the brake cap off. Changed brakes four times now and never had a problem.

you can buy a caliper tool at Advanced Auto Parts for like 8 or 9 bucks i think, sure you might only use it 2 or 3 times in your life, but it saves alot of hassle

bingo....... that method works too. "southern engineering" i like to call it

i just lay the hadel of a hammer across the piston and squeeze/lean on it while repetedly complaining that my hands are cramping and using colorful adjectives and before you know it they are pushed in.

just get a C clamp........ they're like $10 at CDN tire... i don't know where you are in regina... but i know there's a cdn tire on victoria

also... i think partsource will loan you the proper tools free of charge... also on victoria
