Drilled and slotted rotors!!!!

Just got them today, im going to put them on tomorrow.

Before i do this, is there anything i should know? is it hard to do? i know i need that clamp so i can put the pads in, but is there any other "special" tool i need?

jabartram 07-24-2007 12:01 AM

actually an old brake pad and a long flat blade screw driver is easier that a clamp.

billytheman1188 07-24-2007 01:18 AM

lol, explain to me how that would work.....

Ghadsphi 07-24-2007 04:26 AM

No special tools, C-clamp and an old pad or piece of wood worked fine for me. Just don't disconnect the brake line or leave the caliper hanging from just the line. some twine or metal coathanger pieces work great. Otherwise it's just take off the wheels, take off 2 bolts for the caliper and 2 bolts for the mounting bracket and pull off rotor. Then do that backwards.

only thing im worried about is not putting the pads on right....... ive seen my step dad do it to my car a few years ago, lets hope everything goes smoothly..... its 4:40 and im still up.....lol, i need to get to sleep so i can get up and put those SEXY ASS rotors and pads on my car :-)

TwistedDreams 07-24-2007 07:04 AM

3 steps:
take out old pad, put new pad in same way, repeat

billytheman1188 07-24-2007 01:08 PM

alright, well i just started, i have the caliper off, but how the eff do i get the rotor off????????????????

billytheman1188 07-24-2007 01:23 PM

I thought the rotor would just slide off, and it doesnt look like anything is holding it on.....should i get a hammer and start hacking away?

antichrysler 07-24-2007 01:33 PM

I'm pretty sure you just pull it off. Try twisting the rotor while you pull and spray it with WD40.

billytheman1188 07-24-2007 01:36 PM

there is only one spot i can pull on the back rotor, cause there is a plate behind the rotor and i dont want to pull that off, this damn rotor is pissing me the eff off

AGT 07-24-2007 01:46 PM

Giver a few taps with a rubber mallet

billytheman1188 07-24-2007 01:59 PM

Ive been trying that.....well its an hour later and im still on the back f*cking rotor..........wow.

billytheman1188 07-24-2007 02:13 PM

is there something different about the back rotors?? ive been hitting them with a rubber mallet for a while, nothing is happening.

billytheman1188 07-24-2007 02:34 PM

nevermind, my stepdad helped me out, idk what i would do without him! ;-) hahaha

antichrysler 07-24-2007 02:50 PM

lol you would screw up
that's what you would do :p

billytheman1188 07-24-2007 05:11 PM

lol, yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa yea.

i finished about a half hour ago, took it out for a drive, idk if its just me....but i feel like i have to push the pedal down a little more than i used to, my step dad told me its probably because they are brand new pads and they probably need to wear in a little bit. I HOPE SO!

AGT 07-24-2007 05:33 PM

^^ yeah just building the pressure up in em. THey should work well.

Congrats

BEst way to learn

billytheman1188 07-24-2007 05:52 PM

Yeap, i love the feeling i get after i do something myself!!! it always takes me a lot longer than it should, but w/e i got it done.

When i was taking the bolt off the caliper i pushed down hard, and i put a pretty deep gash in my finger, blood squirted up on my sleeve, good thing i wore a shitty shirt ;-) its gonna take a while to heal though, kind of sucksss.
