Plugs And Wires
 

picking up new plugs and wires, not doin it for performance jsut need new 1's, but might as well get some bang for my buck if any at all...any 1 recommend any brands?

just go with ac delco, they are a good plug that you know will work. As for wires, I don't know.

i got the taylor wires from summit, they add a bit of flash under they hood.
as for plugs i got some ac delco rapid fires- when i replaced the bosch's with the rapid fires there def was a difference in power.

Get the ACDelco's for plugs.

You could go to a thicker wire for some color ;)

Is it hard to replace the plugs and wires? Is it a how to on here if not this could be an opportunity for you to do one. If it isn't that involved then I'll do mine myself rather then paying for it.

its easy. Pull the wires off the plugs and the coil pack, making sure to note which wire goes where. Take your spark plug socket and remove the plugs. Reinstall in reverse, use some dielectric grease on the coil output and the top of the plugs.

I found the backs hard, and my mech's old assn stripped the number 1 plug hole and ripped the number 3 hole so bad that a heli coil had to be put in :(

2,4,and 6 and easy and the wires are also easy. I swapped them in front of my house ;)

Ya, the backs are hard to get at on the 3400 unless you got small arms and hands. On my old Alero there was one plug that never got changed untill I replaced the LIMG, it's real easy to get at with the top of the motor tore down!

On the 3400, you can remove the alternator to get some more room if you need it. It comes out really easy.

you dont even need to do that, just a wobble joint and some patience.

I had no problems just using a set of regular extensions...had to dance around various lines and hoses, but I got all of them without much hassle.

is there a certin tork u have to put on plugs

I believe there is a spec for them, but I've always just snugged them hand tight with the socket, then about a half turn with the ratchet. Anybody else with a spec chart wanna chime in?

I'm about to get my plugs changed for the first time since adding my front strut brace. It's the 3400, so i'm taking them to be changed. Will it be better to remove the strut bar for easier access, or is relatively easy to work around?

You're paying someone to do it? Let the bastard work around it. haha

You can change the plugs on the 3.4 without removing anything. 3/8 drive ratch with a 6 inch extension and a spark plug socket.

i normally have to remove my stb to change plugs.

I just changed my plugs last weekend. You can do it without removing anything, but I opted to remove the coil pack for the extra room. I was changing the wires as well (car has 99k on it now) and there's only four bolts that hold the coil pack in place. Took me about three hours and I was going really slow. The car's just a daily driver and I'm on a budget, so I went with Duralast wires and Bosch platinum plus plugs (against everything I read on here, I'd already bought them anyhow). The car runs much smoother now and it seems like I don't have to step on the accelerator so much to get the thing moving.

I also checked my gas mileage this week. I gained around 3-4mpg after the tune-up (PCV valve also) so I'm pretty happy. This was under the same conditions driving back and forth to work with the A/C on. Fuel filter, tranny filter/fluid are going in at the next oil change in 1k miles.

Ok, so now I'm into the plugs and wires changing bug...I've got 2, 4, and 6 done ..no problem..now im on 1,3,and 5 and the damn wires WILL NOT budge, I've tried taking a pair of pliers to them and twisting but I'm not getting anywhere, I can't get the good enough angle to get a good bite.. Should I take off the coil and alternator? Or is there something easier that I'm missing? I don't want to have to wait 'tll tomorrow to finish this...
