Ahh Dash trouble!
2 Attachment(s)
Hey Im having a serious problem with my dashboard. The Vinyl is peeling back! What can I do to fix this?
Any help would be greatly appriciated! Thx! Gib |
looks like it's coming of nice and clean,no cracks yet but if you wate to long it will.only thing you can realy do is get some glue and stick it back down.
|
What type of glue should I get for the job? I mean I cant just use super glue :P:haha:
|
well i haven't done it before,so really don't know.but i would think that one of the glues that come in an aerosol can would work good,or what ever will spred around well and give you time to work with the vinyl.i guess you would just get the glue on then stick the vinyl down smoothing the bubbles out like a sticker and poke the edge down in the crack with a screw driver or some thing.just make sure the vinyl hasn't shrunk already before you start.

Looks better off. If it comes off completely take a pic, cause I like that black look. I'll peel all my s h it off if it looks good.

speaking of dash trouble, my vinyl is like bubbling up above the speedometer cluster...i think the sun is doing it... is this permanent or can i somehow fix it?
|
^glue and pull it down
|
its like right in between the windshield and the steering wheel...does that mean i have to pull all the vinyl up to get to the spot? i don't know how it happened, i just noticed that it looks like the glue undid or the foam underneath melted.
|
that looks funny lol
|
had that happen to mine... I just took it off.

could could probly get a large gauge hyodermic needle and inject a glue under it. or use a plain siringe(sp?) no needle tp and cut a small slit in it to get glue under it as well. both may or may not work. and the second option might leave a mark. getting the air out is going to be the biggest issue |

In ref to the top pic, it's just peeling on the section where your passenger air bag is. Follow the steps on this site to disconnect and remove the passenger airbag (if you can't find it, PM me and I'll post how to do it). The material is wrapped around and glued and "pressed" to hold it down. Once you remove the airbag, peel off (carefully) the remaining material. Than it's a matter of going to a material shop, getting a piece of vinyl that matches, a section of "foam" (thin foam or material pad). Reapply the material. It's coming off so easily because the method of application of the vinyl is different over the airbag than it is over the dash...
If that doesn't work for you (say, because you can't find the same colour of vinyl as you have), your other option would be going to a wrecker, and finding a passenger side airbag that matches. But, it's not easy to find one that hasn't been deployed. Hope this helps. |
Mine is peeling up above the speedo too.
I fixed it, somewhat, but it's peeling again. I used an art glue at Walmart, it was only $0.88, guess I gotta use something else |
same problem
my dash has been peeling for over a year now and I can't fix it. I had my windshield replaced a while back so this means i had really easy access to the dash...from there i used the strongest 3M adhesive i could buy along with double stick tape under it all and then duct tape along to edge (which was hidden by the trip piece in the front) by mid summer the vinyl peeled back out and is sticking up....i have almost given up on this stupid issue...why couldnt the dash be made out of plastic or metal LOL....im am out of options

I paid $100 to have it fixed in, um, June? It's starting to ripple again. I hope it sells before it comes up!
|
that is just crazy!
To really make that stick good again, I think you would almost have to sand down the textured surface that the vinyl sticks to, but then again, I'm not sure if that would have any effect on the air bag. |
