components
I was reading though an old post of mine and one of the parts i dont understand is what components are, and i cant really find a clear answer. What do they really have to do with the front speakers and how do i know if i have it or not?
|
components generally are a set of speakers. a woofer and a tweeter, but with a crossover in between.
The crossover splits the signal sending the highs to the tweeter, midrange/lows to the woofer. stock, our cars have a setup similar in the fronts. has a speaker and a tweeter, but no crossover inbetween. |
and they are normally mounted seperately, mid-sub mount low as in door and tweeter mount high as in door pillar pod.
|
So if something of mine is blown in my dirvers door is it just a speaker of is it this sub-tweeter combo? I dont know if its sstock though.
|
Its the cheap Delco 4x6 in the fronts, nothing fancy.
Then there is the cheap tweeter in the sail panels/ "door" The previous poster makes the assumption its best to keep the mid as low as possible and the tweets up high. This can be true if done right, but if its not done right your point source is at risk. Be careful. Make sure your component sets crossover has a way to attenuate the tweeter. You just might need it! |

its not an assumption, i dont assume thing i do alot of reading and its whats most commonly done by the do it yourselfer, its easy and it works, and we're not all sound geniuses, and yes its how i have mine setup, but i dont feel like ripping my door panels apart to optimise my sound imaging. themeaningoflife, components usually sound better, but you need to purchase adapters for our doors for the mid-woofer, and you can install new better tweeters in the door pods its actually fairly simple just takes time. |
i have the door chime adapter, bracketless face adapter, and adapters to fit a 5.25" into the 4x6 mount i want to get rid of

Ok... Pint Source: Sound emitting from one location R/L When you place the tweeter in the sail of A pillar and the mid down low in the door what happens to your point source? To overcome this you need to attenuate the tweeter. Otherwise you can pick out where the tweeter is and where the mid is. Placing the tweeter close to the mid creates a good point source. Coaxs are obviously a good point source. So before you mount your tweeters up high permanent, play around with the placement some. Use double sided tape. Get a comp set that has adjust ability. Not all do. |

yes i understand that, but my point was ease of install using the stock locations. i dont want to cut new holes in my doors, so i use the factory spots, in the rear i have my mids and tweeters sitting within 1 inch of each other. |
