long life water flush
hey guys, i used to work with a guy who was at a GM dealer and he said to flush the longlife coolant for normal green. he also said there have been some problems with switching it but more often than not its worth it. has anyone done this or know any info on it.
|
nope never heard on long life washer fluid before.
but for the dang GM dex-cool, get rid of it. you shouldn't need to flush the system, just make sure you drain out all your old antifreeze b4 you put in new stuff(prestone is what i used). |
Ya GM realized that dex gets extremly corrosive and eats gaskets faster
|
i use dex-cool
|
how would i go about getting all the water out of places like the heater core and other pipes, should it all flow to the lowest point?
another thing i had read about was a gurgeling coming from the heater core im not sure what the problem ended up being but iv heard it once in my car in the month that iv owned my car. |
Heavy flushing, gadren hoses work well. but I've never done that to the Alero.
When I had the LIMG replace, my mech used a unverisal antifreeze which is better than dex-cool and compatable with all coolants. I'll have to ask him about it :ninja: |

Damn skippy. Someone please tell me that I must have somehow missed the thread here warning everybody to STOP USING DEX-COOL. I mean, you guys didn't feel that was pertinent info? Could this also be what's ruining the LIM gasket? |
-edit-
Always research BEFORE you post. Keeps you from lookin like an ass later (advice to myself):thumb: I wished I had known about dex-cool. I'm on my second engine that will eventually crap out on me probably in the near future. I'll post up pics of my coolant reservoir tomorrow. A brand new was installed earlier this year but to look at it now, it's like rust has settled at the bottom and on the cap. I'm surprised there's no kind of lawsuit against GM. So in actuality, does the defectiveness of our cars rest solely on faulty LIM gaskets, or are the gasket probably good and it's the dex cool eating away at them And keep using that SEARCH button:coolio: |
Errr.... I was just saying this car's had dex-cool since the beginning, and I'm at 175,800 miles now with no leaks of any sort..
|
I have dex-cool in everything. As long as there's no contamination and you keep it full (that's the key!) there's no problems at all. This is in cars old and new, tractors, and more. If you keep it up, it's BETTER than the green crap that has the silicates in it.

in lots of people's opinions dex-cool is crap. Just google it.

took it out of context, my bad. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/autom...m_dexcool.html |
Well, try this one for reading...
http://www.imcool.com/articles/antif...l-macs2001.php It's not the dex-cool that causes the problem. It's poorly designed gaskets and/ or cooling systems (especially the S-Trucks). I'm going to have to change the dex-cool on my mom's denali soon since it's 5 years are up with no problems. |
