Help me please :-(
SO today on the way home from college i turn off the highway and this LOUD screeching noise comes from my passenger side (front) and so i drive around to see when it does it and what it may be. It does it at lower speeds and when i brake harder. Also does it when im backing up and turn the wheel hard. The brakes seem to work fine.
ANY suggestions or anyone know exactly what it is:( |
wheel bearing? aka the hub?
|
hope not because that is expensive right??
|
uhh no .. there like 100 bucks if u do it yourself.
or are your brake pads low? they got wear indictators on them to make screeching noise when low. |
nevermind...
|
WEll i just got new pads about 3 months ago but they didnt cut or rotate the rotors(same stock rotors that came on car new--84000miles). BUUT would pads go that fast even if the rotors werent adjusted
Would braking make the wheel bearing screech....and would brake pads/rotors make a really quite whine while not braking (for a second or two after braking) |
Help Me Please
damn i thought u wanted someone to kick you in the nads:thumb:

Cause you would have been all over that right... Check your wear indicators...screeches are more likely brake related. Grinding is more hub related unless you just treat your brakes like absolute crap. |
what about a grinding screech noise lol....it sounds like metal on metal.
How do you check the indicator. Do i have to take off the wheel, cuz thats a pita cuz i have to take of rockers too :-( |
SO everyone agrees prolly pads/rotors
|
im saying bearing. There is no way pads go in three months.
|
Yea but my rotors SUCK they are covered in rust and are bad warped and have bad grooves. I am really hard on my brakes too. I live in South MO and there are nothing but hills and 90 degree turns and i take em all at 70 lol.
Plus it only happens when i brake |
why do you have to take ur sides off i use fact jack bearly to lift it up then use hyrulic jack
|
Eh i decided to take it into the shop tomorrow....will just use a floor jack i guess
I really hope it is the rotors/pads Because im buying a new set of both and changin them out tomorrow. If its not them oh well really because i need them anyways. |
if its a grinding metal on metal sound, it's probably the pads
sounds kinda like you're taking a metal shovel and scraping it on concrete when you hit the brakes? it wouldn't make a screeching sound though (at least from what i've heard)... and if you just got them changed 3 months ago, I'd lean towards ur hub or whatever |

The wear indicator is on the brake pads. Its just a metal tab that will hit the rotor when the pads are worn too low. |
Well had to do some more driving to see what i thought.
When im driving and brake to slow down and make a right turn the "noise" starts....it continues the whole time im braking through the turn and even when im out...i drive about 100 yards with the noise still going then tap the brakes and it goes away. Im def thinking its the brakes |
I don't know, that sounds like a wheel bearing to me. If it were the brakes it would make the noise no matter which way you turned the wheel.
|
it might be a combo of both!
|
or maybe your calipers aren't tightening and releasing properly
so you hear the noise when you step on the brakes, but when you release, they don't release all the way so you still hear the noise because it's still rubbing |
