How to program a new key fob

I recently purchased a 1999 GL and only received 1 key fob security transmitter. If I buy another one online, the instructions say I'd have to bring it to a dealer to reprogram it at an additional cost. I was doing some research online and came across this process. Has anyone tried this for a 1999 and does it work? Thanks. ------------------------------- I just purchased a 2000 Alero and it only came with one programmed key fob. The dealer did give me another one from his excess pile but told me I'd have to take it to an Olds dealer for programming. However, I did some research and found a simple procress to program that doesn't even require a paper clip. 1. From the drivers seat ensure all four doors are closed and hold down the door lock switch to the unlock position. Hold it down while you insert the ignition key twice and the third time leave the key in. 2. Release the unlock switch. You will hear three tones. Immediatelly hold down both the lock and unlock buttons on your fob. Hold them down until you hear two beeps. It may take a few moments. Do this with each of your fobs. I did it with two. I understand you can program up to four. 3. Remove key from ignition this article is come from tech78.com:http://www.tech78.com/auto/1999-aler...try_45569.html |
