Rear 6x9's to 6.5's

Hi,

This is in my 4 door, 2003.

I'm doing my install and thought I'd post some pictures along the way.

I'm replacing the 6x9's to 6.5's.

Made an adaptor out of 1/8" press board as seen in the pictures. It fits into the factory speaker mounting plates.

nice. can't see why you'd want to change those though. 6x9s should be louder/more clear, depending on brand. :huh:

i have 6.5 polk db6500's in the rear and they sound excellent.

Its always been my experience that any round speaker sounds better than any oval speaker.

But since SQ is subjective, to each their own.

A 6X9 will provide more bass. But in my eyes not as good SQ.

If anyone cares to look, you will notice none of the top SQ names run any type of oval speaker. ;)

the 5 1/4 and 6 1/2s i had in my eclipse were plenty loud.............and they were even clear..they had plenty of bass definitely far more than the 6x9s i have in my alero.

Which size speakers have the least bass? I have a 15inch kicker and puts out ALOT of bass.

I dont bother, unless I have no subs. Then i will consider adding 6X9 subs to give me bass and some mid fill.

Well "alot" is relative. What "alot" to you can be laughable to others.

Furthermore, to gauge subs you can look at potential. Its not an end all be all deal, as the key factor is often mis-stated by manufacturers, but its a good general guide.

Here is the formula:
SD (in CM^2) * XMAX (IN CM) * 2 / 1000= Displacement in Liters.

To get MM to CM simply move the decimal to the left 1 place. So 32MM = 3.2CM

Now for an example.

What will have more potential? 8- 8" Resonant Engineering RE series or a single Resonant Engineering 15" SX sub?

RE8
SD 195
Xmax 1.2CM
195*1.2*2/1000= .468 Liters per
.468*8= 3.744 total Liters of Displacement

SX15
SD 810
Xmax 2CM
810*2*2/1000= 3.24 total Liters of Displacement

Now that you have an effective tool to determine what scenario has better potential I wish you luck!

Well enough it overpoweres the rest of the music.

I can do that with stock speakers and a single 8" sub.

Like I said man its all relative.

I ran a set of $620 comps that were loud as hell amped. Sometimes thats what it takes to balance against your subs.
