Help with Clear Corners
I have a 99, and I'm trying to clear mycorners
how do I disconnect the wires behind the turn signals without breaking anything? and yes, I did search |
nevermind, just got em out
|
lol nice.
|
also, should the Silicone in there be black?
mine is black and it seems nearly impossible to get off I had a blow dryer on it for a good 10 minutes and it still didn't budge |
^ lol ya it is. it takes a LONG time to do this mod right. just take your time, its worth it. also might wanna try the oven trick, it helps a lot even though you will still need a blow dryer to get the left over silicone.
|
Some will say not to do this... but i do it all the time. Put them in the oven for less than 10 minutes. KEEP AN EYE ON THEM! The only time this never worked for me is when i forgot about them and they melted and warped. You can usually pry them apart with a screwdriver.
|
how many degrees?
|
i did like 125 degrees for 9-10 mins, just keep an eye on it
|
okay thanks
|
wow, this thing is definitely not budging
I've had it in the oven at 200 degrees... and nothing... any other ideas? |

Don't forget to turn them and baste them at 5 minutes. |
lol alright, finally got it apart
about the chrome part, how exactly should it come off? wow, these clips definitely do not want to come off will it be alright if accidentally break one or two? |
^ once you take out most of the remaining silicone it pulls right out
|
Mine were glues omn. take a knife and gently cut and pry at it. The chrome part will come off like that, then silicon it back in place whe your done.
|
wow, my corners are finally cleared
lol man, i thought it would take about 2 hours tops... crazy... now I just gotta put everything back together and I'll take a couple pictures later thanks guys |
make sure you use a LOT of silicone..
|
^ and let them dry a long time before putting them back in your car. i didn't and they fogged up inside right away, so i had to leave them in my house for a couple days to dry then it was fine.
2nd time i did it tho (to put in led's), it dryed right within a couple hours. |
oops, I kinda put them right back on the car
oh well... guess I'll be taking them apart again sometime soon |
siliconing them is REALLY easy if they are still warm to the touch, since it tends to make the silicone melt some into a more liquid consistancy.... getting it into all the little nooks.
you might not have any issues, but most likely, your gonna have puddles forming in them w/o re-sealing them. |
I did reseal them with silicone, but I just didn't wait before I put them back on the car
