How to use high beams for day time lights
hi,
many aleros i realized use their high beams for the day time running lights, while mine uses low beams. Does anyone here know how i can switch that up? i would like to use the high beams for the day time. Thank you. :coolio: |

why in gods name would you want to? 30+ out without a single cloud in the sky and the sun bright as shit and you need the high beams to see better? POINTLESS |
ya thats kinda a weird request
|
plus possibly illegal, and rude to the other drivers that have to see you high beams all the time.

Actually they use a totally separate lamp which is only in use when your regular lights and brights are not on. I suggest you stand outside the car while its light on, check. Then turn your lights on, check again. Then finally the brights, check one last time. You will then see the difference. |
Pointless!

DRLs are dummy lights, if you have your wipers on or visibility is lower than a certain amount ,your headlights MUST be on. nearly everyone who does not have DRLs doesn't turn their lights on in thick fog and stuff making it hard to see them. it's not a "i can't see and need my headlights during the day" thing, it's more of a "retards don't turn on their headlights when they should so i can see them in adverse conditioins" |
^I had a 2000 my high beams were NOT my DRLS.
|
should've been, they switched over in 2002 or 2003 as far as i know to the low beams
|
he probably likes the look of the high beams being the drl's. Calm down people, it was just a simple question.
I'm not quite sure how you would go about changing it. Hopefully someone on here that knows how to do it will help you. |
why in god's name would my highbeams be my drl's?
|
they aren't? wtf?
|
huh? now i'm confused. no, i've really never checked but I just don't see why my highbeams would be used as my drl's. i guess thats one of the alero's mysteries.
|
it's high beams 1999-2002 AFAIK, and lows 2003+
because during the day the high beams don't blind you. and during the night the low beams are what you use most of the time, so it prolongs the life of the more important night bulbs at least thats how i think of it |
and the high beams are not outputing full light when they are in drl mode
|
^^^ thank you. There are two different amounts of voltage going to the bulb depending on if it is DRL or high beams. Believe me the DRL's are not as bright when my high beams are on. I have an 01.

Yessuh! This is the reason people never put HIDs in for the high beams, since if the car has DRLs the lower voltage wreaks havoc on the transformer/ignitor.. either htat or the DRLs must be disabled. In the end this guy has a simple question.. and I understand it, but I can't say as I know how to do it. |
heyy, lol sorry i was away for the weekend and couldnt check the replies, well the only reason i asked is, i put HIDs and since they are 8k and i guess the thing thinks its only enough if one shines so i was thinking just switching it somehow to the high beams because, im to lazy to get a relay for it and yeah LOL i was thinking it would be the easier choice lol, i should have mentioned i had HIDs but yeah. sorry about the confusion lol. Thanks for some that thought about it before randomly wrote Pointless on it lol.
|
I did think about it and no matter what I thought it was still pointless. I haven't wrote one pointless thing randomly yet.
|
you can disable the DRL's pretty easy. should be a how to on here somewhere
