shifting problems.....
Ok when at first the car is fine. After i'm driving a while it shifts kind of like the tranny is slipping....shifts very "clunky/hard" from first to second....a mechanic said he has the same problem with the same engine and nobody seems to think anything is wrong?? i had a tranny service done on it...still does it...only 48000 miles on the car its a 2001. ummm....anybody else with this engine "2.4 twin cam" have this problem??? or any advice?? a new tranny i'm sure would be SUPER expensive....

i have had the same problem, in the past, but for some reason its gotten better. i had a flush and fluid change a little while ago, but it didnt do too much. then i installed the B&M shiftplus, and only used it a few times, but after i did the tranny shifted very smooth. i dont know what exactly happened but its fine now.also, a very firm shit is better than a sluggish shift tho, sluggish would mean its slipping. if its not horrible, or making any noises or anything, i wouldnt worry too much. and ya a new tranny would be expensive. i got quoted 1G. dunno if that was reman. or new but either way, its money i dont have. good luck.

ya, it gets bad sometimes. that's the problem. but maybe i could try the b&m shiftplus. but is that gon wear n' tear on the tranny at all because my car is now a daily driver??? and how much and how easy is the install??

I have the same problem but its probably way worse than yours, and I have 117,xxx miles on mine, usually mine shifts so hard that it moves to whole engine/tranny and my trac off light comes on then it starts shifting quick as hell...my tranny is just done tho so idk what to tell u but that maybe u have a short in ur map sensor, its one of the things that controls how ur tranny shifts

 sorry.. I just found your typo somewhat comical. |
haha...wow, didnt catch that the first time...i wud still rather have a firm rather than sluggish shit...

tranny issues
mine does that sometimes too,but once its warmed up at normal temperature level unless something else like brake issues or something....it runs fine.
|
the trannys run at higher pressures untill they warm up just to be safer. thats why they shift a bit harder. you should drive it at 25 below F, trac control comes on going into second.
|
yeah, mine only does it after the car's warmed up. does that mean that the tranny could be overheating?

OK!!!! I have a solution or some or all of these trans problems!!!!
There on the intake pipe on the stock LD9 (2.4L) There is a 2 wire sensor this is the Air Temperature Sensor. THIS MUST BE PLUGGED IN AND WORKING. If you have the stock air box intake it is right on the L shaped hose by the power steering box. If you have installed an after market intake, there should be a rubber grommet on the pipe for this sensor. Make sure the sensor is there and plugged in. I have no clue what they cost but replace it if it is plugged in and everything, the trans WILL be a hard hitting shift out of 1st, like enough to shake the dash. all other shifts might be hard and might not. \ Let me know if this fixes the problem. I had the same problem on mine |
for a little while after i installed my WAI, the sensor was out of place, and about the time i installed the B&M shiftplus, i put the sensor back where it belonged. so i am assuming that was the problem. thanks.

What is the B&M shift plus, how does this incorporate in a "sealed" trans or do you have the 3400SFI?
